November 2007 Code Watch

I think they were released August 16 last year.

So if Disney Visa codes are going to be released, they would be released in the next few days, right? Don't they usually precede AP rates by a week? Or do they just precede general public codes by a week?

Anyway, I don't want to give anyone false hope....Disney Visa codes are pretty infrequent....I've been a cardholder since day 1, and there's never been a Disney Visa code at the time I could use one. (But I do have $1583 in Disney Visa dollars to spend, so I'm not complaining!)

There's a list of past code release dates here http://www.mousesavers.com/historicalwdwdiscounts.html#codetrends. Last year, the Disney Visa codes came out on Monday, 8/14, and the general public codes came out Wednesday, 8/16. The Disney Visa code was just a three letter code that could be used by anyone with a Disney Visa. I was on the phone first thing that Monday morning. I'm pretty sure I didn't get an e-mail from Chase about it until later that day or maybe even a few days later.

If they stick to the same calendar, then the Disney Visa codes should come out next Monday, 8/13. The thing that worries me is that last year, mousesavers knew about the codes coming out a few days in advance. I've been checking mousesavers frequently (immediately after checking my e-mail for a pin, of course), and so far nothing. I still think it's coming, hopefully real soon.

Holy cow... $1583 in Disney visa dollars!!! I thought I was doing pretty good with $458--

The question is - how long have you been accumulating points to get that much?

I'll confess first - I got my card mid July 2006. I have around $830 so far, hope to have another $150 or so by the first of October when my package is due to be paid off.

Another question - I've never stayed on-site before, so I'm not familiar with all this code stuff. Is the Disney Visa discount more than the general public discount, or are there only limited rooms for all the discounts, or what?

I already have a reservation, so if I call with one of these codes, do they cancel my old and make a new? If so, I would be paying more for the park tickets, right?

When we went to WDW in May of 2005, we had $1005. That fed the 5 of us everything we wanted to eat for 7 1/2 days. We started accumulating again on that trip, so they've been adding up for 26 months. We put everything we possibly can on the credit card, and pay it off every month. Last year we put in a pool...while we weren't able to pay the pool builder with the Disney Visa (drat!), we paid for our custom fence and gate with it, all the landscaping, etc.

Here is my favorite "trick": The way our dental insurance works, we have to pay the dentist first, then a few weeks later we get a reimbursement check. Since we are reimbursed by the insurance company, the Disney dollars we get are truly free.

Sorry to hijack this thread!

I've never been able to use a Disney Visa code, but I think the rooms cost a bit more with it than with an AP code.

What I don't remember is whether the Visa code makes the room cost less than with a general public code. It may just be that you can book a week earlier than with a general public code. That's why I'm not optimisic...I really doubt that there will be a general public code over Thanksgiving, so probably no Visa discount either.

I checked this website and got the 8/14 date but it just says "package discounts.." Does anyone know what the discount was? I know it's not free dining. There was a package discount this spring for free water parks/park hopper, but we don't usually use those so that didn't help us any.

As to the Disney Visa, we had just over $600 for this past April's trip, and I'm over $200 so far now! I just use my card for everything I can (also pay off every month) and it's great!:cool1:

I used that package code last year. I was effectively free dining. I remember it being about a $700 savings over the standard package price. This was an 8 day/7 night stay at the Yacht Club.

Wow - that's awesome! I hope they do that again - can I hope for two trips in one year!!!:cool1:

How do you find the Disney Visa codes? Does Chase send them or do you call?
Thanks

email was from DISNEY DESTINATIONS.

I got an e-mail from Disney Destinations. I was so excited thinking my time has finally come after all these years. I excitedly opened it and NOTHING. Just an advertisment for interactive disney. GRRRR:mad:

Last year, I knew the Disney Visa code was coming from reading about it first on mousesavers, then here. The disboards were abuzz with people desperately trying to apply for a Disney Visa before the code came out. I think I got the actual code the morning of 8/14 from mousesavers. I can't remember exactly when I got my e-mail from Chase, but I seem to recall that it was after I had made my reservation with the code. The general public code that came out on Wednesday, 8/16 was for the same discount. The advantage for the Disney Visa holders was just the jump start on everyone else.

The code was for a package, with at least one day base ticket. (A room only code came out later.) My understanding was that only the room portion was discounted. I paid $1052 (incl. tax) for nine nights at POP, with 8 day park hoppers for two adults, no dining. I backed out what the tickets would have cost if I bought them from Disney's site, and the 12.5% tax, and I came up with about $49/night. I think the rack rate at the time was $82, so that would have been a 40% discount. The pin code I had back in 2004 was room only for $49/night at the POP. I guess I'm getting spoiled by that low rate. My AAA rate right now for POP is $84.15, and that just seems too high.

Here's wishing for a code for all of us November people. pixiedust:

I had a momentary bit of excitement this morning when a message from "DISNEY" came up on my Blackberry. Could I finally be receiving a coveted PIN code? Alas, no. They just wanted to tell me that their web site had a new look. Darn.

I saw that too yesterday. Always have a moment of "tease" when a Disney email comes...:lmao:

Out of curiosity i checked my paperwork from last year and the discount came out to the general public on August 17th. I ended up saving another 284.16 on my package I was psyched. Keeping my fingers crossed for the same this year. here's to hoping!:wizard:
