11 night Alaska cruise? That DOES sound awesome! But you can't leave us hanging without more details! Pretty please? Who did you go with? Where did you go and what did you do? Are you sick of seeing big ol' piles of ice? What would you do differently if you went back?

I agree -- details to read when I return of the Alsakan TRIP.....

Wish I had known you were going. If you stopped in Ketchikan I would have recomeded a good service provider to use for Scuba (if you are certified) or snorkling (if not Scuba certified.) You would not beleive the way people's eyes will bug out when you tell them that you have been free diving or SCUBA diving in Alaska.

If you ever plan to go back check out this site first...

This is just a posting to let you all know that Barkly & Family have had a major change in there life. We just sold our home that we have had for 7 years and moved into a rental while I (the DH and self-deluded leader of the family) start applying for jobs in a new state. Good-bye California, South here I come. We are looking to relocate to Tenneesee, so if you know of anything out there for a systems analyst, let us know.

Love to all,

The Barkley Family.

Hello to everyone. I'm sitting here with boxes all over and junk after having the house painted, thinking how nice it would be to go on a cruise!
Hope everyone is enjoying! :sunny:

Snorkeling in Alaska??? The water had ice in it - I don't think I could have put my foot in there without screaming!

We sailed on the Celebrity Mercury. We departed from Ensenada and ended in Seattle with stops in San Francisco, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Prince Rupert, B.C and sailed to Hubbard Glacier and then thru the Inside Passage.
We had PERFECT weather - skies were blue EVERY day and the seas were calm - it was like being out on a lake!

I don't really reccomend the Mercury to any of you as it is in desperate need of a makeover and the cabins are on the small size. However, Celebrity was fantastic as usual and the service and food was the best I've had at sea!

Since this was the 1st Alaska sailing for the season, there were very few kids on board - I think they said there was 30. Haley has a blast in the kids club - the counselors were AWESOME and there was tons for them to do.

We saw over 30 whales just while sailing up from San Francisco to Alaska - that was very cool to me!

Ben & I love Alaska now much more than the Caribbean and will definitely be returning again. Haley enjoyed the trip - she loved seeing the "snowy mountains". Living in Georgia you don't get to see that!

Lets put together a reunion cruise and all sail together next year - wouldn't that be fun!?!?!?!

I could talk about Alaska all day long - so let me know if you have any specific questions. It's really a trip you have to take to understand all of the beauty!

We didn't really see big ol' piles of ice. It was so beautiful. Sitting at dinner - in full daylight since it never seemed to actually get dark there - looking out the window was awesome. I am not a nature girl - but this.... this was beautiful and everyone must see it!

As to what I'd have done differently, flying into San Diego and then being bussed to Ensenada sucked. It was a long day and Ensenada is a pain in the neck. I wouldn't have wanted to give up my 11 day sailing though and I thought getting to see San Francisco was a nice bonus.

We will definitely be going again soon!

Hi!
We will definitely be ready for a "new" adventure after this next DCL cruise in Nov. We have Hawaii booked for March 2007 already.....GOT A KILLER DEAL! YEAH! :thumbsup2 Airfare even from the West Coast to Hawaii now is about enough to make one choke! :guilty:

Nov, 2007? I say FREEDOM OF THE SEAS! I am ready to venture to Royal Caribbean.....especially after talking with Karen (STB on the Beach) about her experiences with their line. FOTS, for those of you who don't know yet, (DA! ) is RC's newest ship and largest in the industry.

Is bigger really better? :bitelip: HHHmmmm!

The itinerary and the ease out of Miami is what floats our boat. Sounds so great for kids of all ages! Go to their main website (Freedom of the Seas).Pretty cool interactive site. Almost no matter how I have checked prices, it seems you can get an outside room with a large window for about $4,000 and change for 7 nights and a GREAT itinerary! Jamaica! Grand Cayman! Hispaniola! ....and Cozumel! Now that sounds awesome to me!

Anyone else? :confused3

Lots of great trip reports and pictures coming out on cruise critic now that FOTS had made her maiden voyage. :thumbsup2

See ya, DIS NURSE

P.S. Some day when I am in the right mood I will tell you all about the crazy mexican chasing me down the beach south of Cancun! Scared the B-Jesus out of me and I would think twice about doing that trip again! Kinda scary!

Glad I am just here to tell about it. :rolleyes1

I enjoy RCCL. I like the Voyager class ships. I should be getting ready to leave for a 2 nighter on the Freedom Monday.... but I am too lazy and didn't feel like packing again after being gone for 12 days. It was also getting too complicated figuring out where Haley would stay.
My TA friend in NY got to go on a one nighter on the Freedom. It's just a bigger version of the Voyager class ships with a few added amenities (the surfing and boxing) - both of which I'd never use - but in any case are cool enough just knowing they are on the ship.
I have steered many clients away from the Freedom to the Voyager - saving lots of money. Right now it is all hyped up and on the news since it is the newest and biggest ship. I'm not so sure biggest is best when it comes to cruise ships. RCCL has a new one in the works that is insanely huge that I can just imagine the problems tendering into port - or even simply getting off of the ship in ports. I am not saying anyone should NOT sail on the Freedom. Just giving friendly advice that if you haven't been on a Voyager class ship... you can save lots of money and you won't really miss a thing.
One other thing, apparently the bathrooms on the Freedom are even smaller than they are on the Voyager class ships. When the words smaller and bathroom are said about a cabins bathroom, it freaks me out - I can't imagine smaller!
Again, I am in no way trying to talk you out of the Freedom - I would just let the hype go down about it and then the prices will go down too.

Allison - I warned you about that Mexico trip! I didn't want to scare you before you went - when I was in Cozumel, our taxi driver said no one should go over to the mainland right now - the natives are crazy and looking for trouble! Glad you made it back ok!

Are you telling me Hubbard Glacier isn't a big ol' pile o ice? :)

You got me started now. Let me introduce myself: I'm Chris, and I'm an Alaskaholic... I've been there more times than I can count (on one hand anyway) and loved every trip. But, I haven't done a proper cruise YET. And it's such a big state, I don't think I'll ever get everywhere I want to go there.

What did you do while you were in port? I'm trying to give a buddy advice (Radiance of the Seas in June), but since I've already done most of the mainstream stuff, I keep looking at the off beat stuff ;) Oh well, he's a big boy!

Buses in Mexico always suck: Whether you're in them or trying to share the road with them.

Hey, AWOLTODAY!!

DS walked in as I was reading your post and he said "Mom, isn't that AWOLTODAY???" Remember,,,he is only f-o-u-r yrs. old!! Your whatcha'ma'call'it - your picture - has evidently been etched into his little brain!! HA!!! pirate:

I am very glad DISNURSE made it back safely!! It truly could have turned out differently! Everyone should think twice about venturing outside a resort area alone!!

RCCL rocks! Yes, their bathrooms are small. DCL has the largest bathrooms by far! But,,,, who spends a lot of time in the bathroom?? Second thought,,,don't answer that!! :rotfl: However, as PrincessHayley'sMom stated.,,,large vessels are not for everyone. My bestfriend's husband detests the large ships. He much rather sail on a small, intimate ship. Everyone should try both then make a decision for themself!! :Pinkbounc
