Notre Dame Admission - Early Decision Announcement?

Anyone else happen to be in this boat?

My son got an email this afternoon saying that the decisions will be announced at 6:42 PM (the founding year having been 1842) tonight. I figured this must mean he got in, but someone just told me that every early decision applicant got this email today.

I can't believe the university would be so cruel - to have a big drum-roll buildup and countdown for three hours this afternoon - if your answer is going to be a "no."

It you don't get in, why enhance the disappointment unnecessarily this way? Just a quiet "sorry but no" would be the way to go.

You would think that a major university would not "tease" early admissions announcements to applicants who might get unwelcome news. However, universities do a lot of totally tone-deaf things and never think of the effects on the affected students.

Good luck to your son!

There are many universities that release their admissions decisions online at a designated date and time. Especially the more selective private schools. In fact, it’s very common now for students to videotape their reactions to college admission decisions and post them on YouTube.

Good luck to your son! Hope he gets the news he’s been waiting for. :cheer2:

Wouldn’t a no at this point not mean no admission, just not early admission?

:confused3 Um, wouldn't sending the notice about the announcement time to only those students that got in render the actual announcement redundant? And while I certainly hope the best for the OP's son, the idea that an unsuccessful applicant needs to be "let down easy" is a little too snowflaky for my liking.

He made it!

The process took us by surprise this afternoon. I thought he would just receive a yea or nay email.

It still seems a bit much to announce the countdown with such fanfare. But if this is how things are done now, then I can see that my reaction would be in the minority.

It used to be a walk down to the mailbox to see if you got the thick or the thin envelope!

UGA early admissions did something similar. Everyone knew when decisions were released on the website. When you logged on if there were fireworks going off on the screen, you were in!

YAY!

Congratulations, that’s awesome! :cool1:

Notre Dame is really hard to get into. Great school! You must be very proud. And now he can relax while most of his friends await their results in the spring. Good luck to him!

Thanks for sharing our happiness - so nice!

Now I don't have to cancel all those reservations I booked for football weekends for '22! (We don't actually go to the games - that's too much money and stress. We go to see the Band of the Fighting Irish - which hopefully we'll have a freshman marching in!)

That is awesome. My daughter has 2 friends at ND. I was so surprised when 2 kids from our school were accepted as it is a hard school to get in to. We joked when my youngest was being recruited for football that he would have no choice but to go to ND if they offered.
