we sent back our forms for dvc and had our friend(a provinicial judge) notarize them.she had no seal -she said that being a judge, she was above a seal-and so she signed them stating who/what she was .just recieved some forms back from dvc and they say they need a seal.damn!.called the office to explain the no-seal deal and they said that in N.J. they don't use seals as well and they get around it as well.the guy said he would pass on the info to the girl who sent the forms and everything should be alright.anybody ever had problems with notarizing?

I would worry if he knew what he is saying. I had my add on docs notorized 2 weeks ago and there was a seal.

Bigger problem, the notary filled everything out but for her signature used her first initial and last name. They told me the state of FL would not accept it and made me take it back and have it redone with her full name.

In New Jersey, any member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey has the ability to notorize a document without a seal by indicating they are an attorney at law of the State of New Jersey (notaries who are not attorneys would still have a seal in New Jersey). I will often notorize documents in this way. That said, when I send documents out of state, I will usually get a seal from a notary to avoid the confusion that inevitably comes from out-of-stater's lack of knowledge about New Jersey's notary rules.

I am planning to have our papers notarized today at work and I will be sure to ask about a seal.

I have always used commisioned officers in the military as notaries, and they never had seals so I would not have thought to ask about it.

I had the same thing happen to me. I live in NJ as well. I had my friend who is a Real Estate Attorny notarize our papers and he did not have a seal either. I got my papers back saying it needed to be signed by a Notary not an attorny. The letter said it needed to be back in 5 day from Tuesday but I called and was told that it would not be a problem I got it back within a week, I got them notarized at my bank and sent them back on Friday 11/14 and on Saturday I got my approval letter for my financing. I guess it didn't really hold anything up after all.

Thanks,

and each state has different rules. What flies in one state does not necessarily work in another. Whenever I sign anything that goes to another state, I give it the full treatment to make sure.
