How is this attempted protesting in VMK supposed to work? Chances are, nobody will see it except some guests and MAYBE the people running the game, who have no control over whether it closes or not. I would think it would be much better to stick with letter writing, where you have a much better chance of having someone who actually does have control over this can see it. Just my opinion. :hippie:

Disney doesn't want the parks to become an arena. They don't want tourist and guests to see the parks littered with picketers and their signs. This is probably the most effective way to fight back. Also, the media is more apt to pick up our story faster.

Really I can't help but agree here with Shaymojack. Reason number one being you can't be ON the Disney property doing this so tourist would not see the parks littered with them and their signs. If its on the street, most people driving into the theme parks won't care to much cause they either don't know what VMK is or are not going to pay attention to those out there across the street from the parks for many reasons (excited about getting to Disney parks is a big one, some going to work or wherever else). If its on the side by a bunch of hotels well considering the amount of those in the hotels that are just going to want to get in the parks as well and what if one of those places decides it doesn't like you out there? As well as it is Mother's Day weekend. And as for the news....well there are more important things to report on then a small protest about VMK closing. I know how local news is here and really I can't see them going out there for that (ok unless it is some super, super slow day in news but that isn't to likely most the time). I'm sorry but to be this way but its true. While I love the game I know how Disney is and right now I rather see a protest over the changes to Its a Small World then VMK. My love for Disney goes way back to when I was little and it will never stop no matter what. One thing I have learned from being a Disney freak is that things are better done in writing with them or phone calls....and that 99.9% of the time what is already decided is done and won't be changed.

I think he's talking about those protests inside VMK it's self. Not any that's in the parks or ouside the studios.

I agree with him. Anything we do inside VMK is not going to help our cause. We have to take it to the parks (or outside them), to the news and to the internet. We also still have to keep sending those letters to those that can actually do something.

OHHHHH, Never Mind :rotfl: I do have to agree about the IN VMK protests being useless.

I disagree. It may not directly reach any decision makers, but it will help make other VMK players conscious of the united effort to save VMK, and maybe stir up some enthusiasm. I've already told several players on my own who didn't know about the petitions and the letter-writing, and they said that they would write letters of their own.

The point is to get the word out.

If it is in game ones then yes but so are in park ones as well. Wouldn't it be better to just write, email or call? I think it is. Letter writing protests have done so much for tv shows and such. Not saying Disney will change their mind on this but I think it says so much more when they end up with piles of letters at the corp offices, kwim?

See my reply to your other post. I agree that writing letters is vital in a campaign like this, but it isn't the be-all and end-all. There's nothing wrong with adding a little variety...if nothing else, it keeps interest, enthusiasm and morale up. Certainly, we should cover as many bases as we can.

Historically, most significant change in this country can be directly traced to grass-roots efforts stemming from protests and demonstrations. No doubt letter-writing was a part of these, too, but only a PART. Something to think about.

Thank you Redshoe. I'm sure none of us organising protests and walks think that the Disney suits play the game and will just happen to stumble across us. Nor do we think that the VMK staff have the power to stop the closure; I'm sure they're just as upset as us about it. What it can do, though, is encourage more VMK players to take action.

You've got to remember that not all players have the network of support and encouragement that we've built up here. Not everyone has access to a huge group of wonderful people to bounce ideas off, find information from and to share enthusiasm and support with. Even in the few protests we've already done, I've found two players who didn't even know that the game was closing, let alone how to speak out against it!

OK, maybe these efforts won't work, we don't know, but sometimes you have to stand up and fight, even if you're not sure you'll win. We need to make as much noise as we can, in as many ways as we can. We need to work together, to make as big an impact as possible, and to encourage each other along. If, in the end, we don't win, we will at least go down fighting.

I have a signature about saving VMK, but that's really all I do with that in the game. It's much more effective to write to WDIG and send e-mails. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with that protest in Disneyland. It's not every day there's any protest there, so it has a good chance of making the news and really getting heard.
