Yes to both.
You can bring candy in your carry on as well, as long as it's unopened.
We always make sure to have snacks handy during flights.

About the candy. No need to check it unless it's a liquid over 3 oz. Is there such a think as liquid candy? (soda pop I guess) And a PP said that the candy has to be unopened to carry on. I don't think that is so. We carry on half eaten bags of M & Ms and chips etc all the time.
