My dear hubby to be is in the hospital, long story short he had surgery for a split vein in his intestines two weeks ago. He got real sick last night and became unresponsive so I called 911. He was severely anemic and required 4 units of blood over last night and today.

We are getting married on 5/6 and heading to WDW on 5/7 for our honeymoon/family vaca with our daughter. He is very worried that we will have to postpone both the wedding and the trip. Thankfully the docs have a good outlook for him and told us that we can still have our wedding and go to WDW.

BUT they said he will have to take it easy so the recommend that I rent a wheelchair. I need advice on what I need to know and if he will need permission to ride certain rides, etc.

TIA!!

I helped in the best way in knew - I prayed!

You can rent a wheelchair easily enough. I have never done it, but I know it is done all of the time.

As far as rides, take the cautions seriously and he will be okay. Ask the CMs questions about the attractions before getting on them..and you might even go and ask somebody who just got off. I have had CMs tell me a ride has no hills when it does or that it is not a dark ride when it is.

Have faith - I bet you will be in Disney in 8 days and you will be Mrs. "somebody else" in 7. Blessings and peace.

Thank you!! This has been a rough 24 hours and I really needed those words of encouragement!!

Here is a link to a FAQ for renting wheelchairs and ECVs.

The folks at the disABILITIES forum might be a good source of information as well.

Between the shows and the non-jarring attractions, there will be plenty to see and do. You'll just have to save the E-ticket attractions for another trip.

Hope everything goes well for you.

I am so sorry your DF is having health issues, and I pray he will be strong enough to travel for your wedding. Congratulations!

come over to the disABILITIES board and post your questions. They are wonderful and can give you all the info you need about wheelchairs, scooters, getting a GAC card (Guest Assistance Card) for the Parks, etc.

Here is the link.

We just went in March and I needed a wheelchair for the first 4 days because of a herniated disc. (I was waiting on an epidural injection to take effect) I was able to do plenty - just not the thrill rides. You can stay in the WC on many rides until you board and all of the shows have a special area for guests in WC's. I hope everything goes well for you both!
