Sexual incident reported on Silver Lake school bus
3/26/2004

Police and school officials said a boy and a girl from Silver Lake Middle School engaged in sexual activity on a school bus, the second such incident reported on a district bus in about 15 months.

School officials learned about the incident, which they said took place last Friday, after breaking up a fight Monday between the boy and another student.

Nobody witnessed the sex act, said school district and police officials, who decided against pressing charges at the end of a weeklong investigation. The girl and boy were suspended and will receive counseling when they return, school officials said.

"It was inappropriate behavior more than anything else," Kingston Police Lieutenant Thomas Kelley said yesterday. The act took place after the bus left school.

About 35 students ride that bus, said officials with the Silver Lake district, which includes Halifax, Kingston, and Plympton.

On Dec. 12, 2002, officials said, a middle school girl performed oral sex on a high school boy as the bus traveled its route to the high school and middle school, which are in different communities.

That incident drew national attention and yesterday, school officials said last Friday's incident raised questions about whether they need to revamp the district's health curriculum in an attempt to curb such behavior.

Yikes. I hate hearing things like this.

I have a real problem with middle schoolers being on the same bus with high schoolers. It used to be that way in our town, before they revamped the school schedules. The bus comes by 3 times for pickup now, and 3 times for drop off...elementary school, middle school, high school. There's a big difference in the maturity level (etc) of a 6th grader and a 12th grader.

I remember back in my time (not too long ago really!) you were lucky to get a kiss on the bus let alone a, well, you know...

 And to think my DD tells me taking the bus is boring. Thank God for that.;)

wow...the only thing I learned on the school bus was all the swear words!

and that was the bus to the CATHOLIC school!

I'm utterly shocked at how fast kids are growing up these days...

Unfortunately, this is not a rare incident. My best friend chaperoned a school bus full of 8th graders going on a field trip to Springfield, about a 4 hr. ride from here. She was sitting in the front with another chaperone when all of a sudden she looked back to see a crowd gathered around the back seat. She went back to investigate and saw something that made her hair stand on end! At the risk of being too crude, think Monica Lewinski. There were several people invloved. The worst part is that they didn't seem to care that there were chaperones on the bus! Needless to say, she contacted the teacher (who was on a second bus) and the teacher decided that they needed to skip the field trip and head back home.

It's a shame that the whole class got punished for the behavior of a few, but I can understand why the teacher did what she did.

I totally agree. But it sounds like this recent case was two middle schoolers.

Another example that parent need to be more actively involved in their childrens lives. Teaching sexual health, responsibility and self respect.

Gee, I wonder if this thread will get deleted too

This isn't a shocker, kids as young as 6th grade are doing this. It is now the norm to be the first thing you do instead of the last!

Oh, you're right. I read this..."On Dec. 12, 2002, officials said, a middle school girl performed oral sex on a high school boy as the bus traveled its route to the high school and middle school, which are in different communities."...and didn't realize it was a different incident. So much for my speed reading, and for blaming it on the bad influence of older kids.

Yikes again.

MosMom, I think the other thread was deleted because people were giving out way TMI regarding their experiences with OS. I found it rather odd that people here felt so comfortable as to give out personal details on a Disney fan site.

But what do I know.

In our district all the middle schools and all the high schools have their own separate buses, thank goodness! I think there is a big difference between a 6th grader and a 12th grader.

I think it's sad that these kids have so little regard for themselves and others to think it's completely normal to perform these "acts." I shudder to think what it'll be like in just 5 years!

I believe I heard on the news that the kids involved were 10 and 14. That's so young, especially the 10 year old.

When I was in High School (9th grade). I got "written up" and detention for what the school deemed sexual activity on school grounds. Wondering what I did---- I kissed a "boyfriend" on the cheek. That was it!! I mean the same type of kiss you'd give your Grandma on THE CHEEK!! The school had a strict no touching/affection policy!! Wow-- and my mother was humiliated by my getting in trouble for that!!

I think it is really sad that children today seem to be growing up (or thinking they are) so quickly. However it does not shock me (which is probably shocking in itself) as I have known an incident where I work with children ages 4-11 where one teacher caught a 5 year old boy doing something he should not have been when he was alone in the toilet and an 8 year old who was caught with one of his mums 'toys' in school with him :scared1:

When I was in high school, we had a nationally televised "sit-in" because a Vice Principal wouldnt let you hold hands in the hallway. To think 15-20 years later they would be happy that that was ALL you were doing! YIKES!

This was just on a re-run of Oprah the other day. The girls were justifying OS, as "just like kissing another part of the body....no big deal." Yikes.:scared1:

Not on MY BUS! I make sure all heads are accounted for all
the time. I had to tell a girl to sit up just the other day.
With the high seat backs that ironically are supposed
to keep students safe, it's easy to get away with loads if your
school bus driver is busy driving. I drive for a huge urban district,
I've heard drivers describe lap dancing, OS, others stuff amazing
to me. Talk to your kids!

Where is the self respect of these girls? :(
