I just want to be able to work in a drama free zone and that just doesn't seem to happen at my present job.
I have worked in this field for 16 years, was laid off for a year and then was hired back by the same company in a different location. I am a Travel Agent.
I have had many issues with my Team Leader (Manager) at this store, however, I had thought that we overcame those issues.
I was promoted back in August, which I was excited about, I did inquire about it because I wanted the position and I got it. With a new position comes new responsibilities, which I knew that I had. Monthly meetings, new reports, meetings within our office etc.
My Team Leader however, has no time to show me, nor does she really know what needs to be done. She has been with the company 30 years and has a reputation that follows her which is not good. People boo her when she wins awards, that is NOT good rep to have.
I had voiced my concern, because I was not being shown what new reports were or having meetings that are mandatory, she just gets away with it because no one wants to question her.
However, now I am not able to do my job and that is a problem.
Last week, she went to her monthly meeting and came back and asked me to stay after because she needed to discuss some changes with me. I stayed, no problem. Then she tells me that I should think long and hard if I want to stay in management, she doesn't like it and wants out. I want in, I am younger and this is my career path and I want to progress as far as I can, but you have to start somewhere. If I want to stay in my position, I can, just not in her store because she doesn't have the time to train me. I then got worried and asked if I was being let go or fired. She said no and why would I think that. Well, you are telling me you don't want me at your store.
I am not able to take over as Team Leader because I have only been in this position for a 3 months and I am not ready to take over. Usually it takes 6 months to a year before someone in my position is ready to take on their own store with proper training of course. She then said that if I wanted to step down I could do that too, but I can't stay in the store either. So they have to find a new place for me.
At first, I thought it was a blessing in disguise, but I have built up a customer base here, I am 20 minutes from work. I spoke with her boss and he says that its a good idea because she is stepping down from her position BUT since I am younger, it would be an issue and she needs to just be allowed to work her way and me not be in the store with her.
I am upset because I didn't do anything wrong, I want to do my job and do it properly so I can advance. This is also the same woman that earlier this year hit me because I didn't do something. I did issue a complaint against her but did not press charges. My fear is that no one has the guts to stand up to her, because she does bring in alot of money.
I have a notebook since this past March dated and timed of things that I felt were not professional and downright wrong or illegal.
There is no union and if I do fight this, they may fire me. Have no grounds because I did nothing wrong. I just don't understand why I have to leave. Just because she doesn't like me and I "tattled" on her.
Do I have an recourse? Do I contact Human Resources?
