for those of us who are age 50 and over (that's not really old, is it? :p) and have AARP (isn't everyone over 50 in AARP? :)), National has AARP rates at 30% off, and you can still use day-off coupons. This may not be new news here on the T Board, but I just became aware of it now.

I just redid my DC ressie and for a 7 day rental, right after Thanksgiving, full-size car minimum, and EA, $163, all taxes incl. Not as good as last year, but this has been an expensive renatal car year. Just an FYI for the 50 and over crowd.

Hi Dan,
Well, I am in that "in" crowd and do appreciate the info.
Thanks a bunch for the info. :)

Wow, that is a good price for a full size these days.

I will be eligible fo join AARP at the end of the year , but wasn't going to signup cuz I have AAA.

Sounds like I better reconsider. We hope to go to Fl in Jan, but nothings settled yet.

Thanks.

Herc..

Remember, AARP is only $8 a year. Wow, I knew a car rental 'thing' before Gail??? Cool!!!!! :p :)

LOL!!!!! Dee belongs to AARP, but, I never paid attention.
I am too busy trying to figure out the Coolpic 5000. I know it will take wonderful pictures ONCE I figure it out. LOL.

DW and I together are 104 so we are AARP material.LOL Thanks for the tip Dan it is appreciated.:D

I used the AARP discount with National to rent a car in Savannah last year and it was cheaper than AAA. This year I got a better rate with Avis at Orlando Airport (MCO) than I could find through AAA. I am a member of both.

Thanks, Dan!!

I just saved $28 and $51 on my Dec and Jan ressies!

Kinda softens the blow of losing the DC discount.

How did you get $8 for an AARP membership? It cost me 12.50.

Still worth it though!

I think my membership would have cost $12.50 if I renewed for one year. I renewed for 2 and it worked out to $10.50 I believe. You can also renew for 3 years I think - and membership does increase. But you save it all on your first car rental.

Nice to know there are so many of us 'oldie but goodies' out here. I hadn't thought about using my AARP for car rentals. THanks for the reminder Dan!! Maybe I'll do that rather than use TT when we are at the Swan in Auust.(thanks again for those photos Dan!!)

Dan,

I'm 50 years and 9 months, and I know that because I have received 9 AARP mailings, one every month since my birthday. All have gone straight into the trash without opening; AARP can go jump in the lake. Do you really have to be an AARP member, or just over 50?

P.S.: By "older", you mean "older than dirt", right?

Everyone is going to be a "geezer" someday. Might as well be a smart geezer and get the best rates. I toss most of the AARP literature as well. My wife cringes at the thought of becoming eligible for an AARP card. I'll spend $10 any day to save $50.

As with the DC coupon offer, the National site says you will need to show your card.

Also, I did find the offer when I logged into the National site. When I followed that link and did a ressie, it ended up with counter service. Taking the AARP code I was given with that link and going through EA, same price, but ended up with EA in addition. Don't forget to use your DC coupon, Entertainment or whatever you have.

DH and I are both AARP members. I have used the discounts many times for better hotel rates. However, I've always gotten better discounts with the Dollar codes found on Mousesavers, than the AARP discount at National (or any other rental car agency).
