not-so-kid friendly restaurants?

DH & I are *hoping* to have a little one with us by the time our next WDW trip rolls around. However, we still will want to eat at many of the great restaurants on the grounds.

Yes this is REALLY thinking ahead, but are there any restaurants, besides Victoria & Alberts in which taking a youngster may not be a good idea?

Truth is that all WDW restaurants handle children well--including V&A. So no place is "off limits". Over the years, I've seen fewer children in places like Citricos, Jikos, Flying Fish, Shulas, etc. But I have seen children (including infants) in most all of them, so I suppose what I'm trying to say is make your choices and enjoy!!

Children are welcomed in all the restaurants, but be prepared to leave if your child gets fussy.

If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't dine at V&A's or Citrico's with a child. Depending on your child Jiko, Flying Fish. Artists Point, Yachtsmans Steakhouse, Shula's, and The Cal. Grill would be others I'd think twice about.

A good place to eat that would be very child freindly is the Kona Cafe :) It's open to the Poly lobby, so a little fussiness would probably not even be noticed by other diners. And the food is YUMMY!

We have eaten at Citricos, Narcoosees, Chefs de france, Jikos, flying fish and Artist points with our children from the time they were very little. No problems at all.

Pick the restaurants from what you like and have fun.

We ate at Flying Fish this past friday night with our 2yo and I did feel a bit out of place. The waiter was wonderful and our son was well behaved - so it wasn't that we had a problem. But, I just felt like other diners weren't happy that we were there. I know I should not worry about what others may thing - but I do!

Kids are welcome at all of the WDW restaurants.. although V&A's discourages the practice by not offering kid's menus. The wait staff will never make a child or his parents uncomfortable.

However, these are the places my DH and I would feel uncomfortable taking our DD... not because of the staff, or because of her behavior, but because we feel that these places usually lend themselves to adults trying to have an adult meal... and we want to respect that.

Artist's Point
California Grille
Citricos
Flying Fish
Yachtsman
Shulas
Palios
Fulton's
Jiko
and of course, Victoria and Alberts

we like to eat at Narcoosee's, and we don't take our DD.. not because it is a place where people go to have an intimate dinner ( it is kind of bustling with the open ceilings making voices carry), but because it isn't really a place she would enjoy-- foodwise... and we do enjoy it... so we go there and she goes to the Neverland Club--- the view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the MK is spectacular. We do see many children there, though!

Our children dined at fine dining spots at WDW as they grew up. We only avoided V&A and Broadway at the Top. It provided wonderful family memories and expanded their tastes.

Go and enjoy. Your little one will be welcomed!

We have always taken our kids to eat with us. They are very well behaved with good manners but they did have their 'kid moments'. I don't think anyplace at WDW is out of bounds but it is up to the parents to know what their kids in particular can and can't handle.

We took our son to our favorite Akershus once and while he behaved, he disliked the food and ended up falling asleep in his chair due to the quiet, dark atmosphere there. Since then he's gone to the Neverland Club much to his own relief! ;)

Infants are the best children to take to a foo-foo fancy restaurant, they just sleep! We have brought our kids to many lovely restaurants at all ages and they did well. ENJOY! And congrats on new baby!

PS: We brought our youngest to WDW when he was 15 months old, he was a Prince.

The only thing I would add that hasn't been already mentioned is if you make a PS for someplace, and your child is over stimulated or highly strung that day, don't hesitate to reschedule your meal. Some of the table service places, while all have been kid friendly, are just slower paced than many small kids can handle. We've cancelled a few meals and ended up going to dinner buffets because that is what our DD was ready for - food, right then, and to get on the road again. I've never been sorry we did that.

Oh the good days of DD#2 being an infant are almost gone - she crashed in Le Cellier and about every other dinner place on our last trip. Probably not next trip though!
