We cannot get a park reservation for Epcot our arrival day. Our plan was to just go over to Epcot after 2PM for F&G. I just learned, from these boards, that we cannot enter Epcot after 2PM unless we have a reservation at another park and have swiped into that park. I got a HS reservation for that day, but we would only be traveling to HS to swipe in so we can go to Epcot later.
I hate the impact of these rules on our trips & when the day arrives, I may not feel like traveling to HS, just to swipe in. Is there a penalty for failing to keep a park reservation?

I don't believe there is a penalty at WDW. I know there is at Disneyland (or was, I am unsure if that has changed that is just what I read in the past) but I have not heard Disney say anything like that for the parks in Florida. I bet a lot of people go to the first park just to swipe in so they could go to the park they actually want to be in, that's just an effect the 2 pm park hopping rule has created.

@sueg: You can walk from DHS to Epcot's International Gateway. It takes maybe 25 minutes, max. Or you could take one of the friendship boats.

And you're in good company not liking the park-hopping restrictions.

But, afaik, there's no penalty for not showing up for your park reservation, other than the "penalty" of then not being able to hop to another park.

This happened to me on my last trip. I was unaware of the "rule". Evidently I was flagged when I entered my PH park. A CM took care of it without comment and I was allowed to enter. No penalty for not going to my reservation park.

There must have been passes available for the PH park - or you had a really nice CM. We've spoke to people on the monorail that had to go scan into Epcot because they were turned away from MK until they scanned into their park res. They were very annoyed, we had to to do the same thing on another trip but didn't try to go to the hopper park in case they turned us away and wasted our time.

Out of curiosity what’s the penalty at Disneyland for AP holders who skip out on a park ressie?

Because you did not activate your pass at the park where you hold a reservation, Epcot can very well refuse you entry. You don't have a reservation for Epcot. I've seen others on other platforms saying they had to go back and swipe. I wouldn't want to waste the time so I would just go to DHS, swipe then either walk or Skyline to Epcot.

If you do so 3 times within 90 days, you get suspended from the ability to make a park reservation for 30 days.

3 no shows in a 90 day period will result in the inability to make new park reservations for 30 days. Any existing park reservations will not be cancelled.

WDW is not penalizing no-shows, but if you don't scan into HS you might not be admitted to Epcot after 2. HS and Epcot are close though, and you can reach the Epcot IG by walking, boat or skyliner from the gates of HS.

Back in June 2021, we had a park reservation for MK - didn't have the energy to make it there in the morning - so went straight to Epcot at 2pm. We were flagged upon entering and a CM fixed it for us and let us in. They explained that we had to tap in to our actual park reservation in order to park hop. I wouldn't risk it again now that I know.....
