I was checking on a price of a toy at toys r us and the toy was $14.95.The next day they were running a sale, buy one get one 40% off however the cost of the toy was now $16.95! I saw this before but I thought maybe I was mistaken. It makes me mad, has anyone else seen this?

One of the many reasons people don't shop Toys R us. Between the prices and the poor customer service, I don't know how they are still in business. If I wanted to be treated poorly, I can go to Walmart. (Atleast the prices are better).

I completely agree! I learned pretty quickly when my children were young not to shop there. Their prices are exorbitantly high, and I could buy the same merchandise elsewhere for much less.

I don't think we've bought anything at Toys R Us since my son was in kindergarten or 1st grade, and he is in 10th grade now. Usually we get things for him at Target, Meijer, Walmart, even the Art and Education store. Toys R Us near where we live had high prices, and frequently the merchandise was shopworn, and we never could find whatever it was we were looking for, because it was out of stock. As I recall, the last thing we ever got there was a Wii console, when they were new, and it was one of the stores that actually had one. I think somebody gave him a gift card several years ago that we never used, because we just could find what he wanted at that store. And, actually, my son isn't particularly picky.

Years ago, there were other toy stores that offered a bit of competition. I think one was KayBee toys and another was Children's Palace. When those other stores were around, the prices and selection were somewhat better, as I recall. I also remember when stores like Macy's had toy departments.

Yep, totally agree with the outrageous prices. I was there today and a lego set my son bought at Target last week for $83.99(not including the extra 5% redcard disc.) was $110 at TRU. Granted there is a buy 1 at regular price get one for 40% off. Unless the second one you are buying is the same price as the first it not a great deal. Customer service is horrible but not the fault of the workers, it's they way the company makes the managers staff the store. Also, why is it store policy not to give rain checks but yet only have two of the items stocked:confused3.
That really irks me to no end.

I noticed that when they had their friends and family code out. I had stuff in my cart from a couple days before and the price went up $10 on 2 of them. So using the f&f discount it just brought the price down to where it was (which was more than anyone elses regular price too).
TRU is not the place to find deals, unless they run a promo on things where the price is set by the manufacturer.

They should learn from the death of KB Toys before it's too late.

It's illegal to raise the base price of a item & so that a sale looks like a better deal.

KB Toys used to do this before Christmas & then put the items on "sale" for the same or slightly lower price during the Christmas season. This was the beginning of the end for KB.

They got sued for it, big time. If customers can document that it's happening at Toys R Us, they could be in serious trouble.

I don't know if that law applies to online stores. Also, TRU's regular prices are always higher than everyones so their sales just aren't that good. I don't know if its an actual case of them raising the prices (in-store) before the same and then lowering them after. Its more of a case where they are consistently over-priced where their sales aren't sales at all.
I don't know is that is illegal.

I hate shopping at TRU, but just this morning I placed an order for in store pick up on two sets of Legos that DS wants for Christmas. Both were $24.99, so getting 40% off one seemed pretty decent. I'm nervous about picking up. Even with receipt I feel like something will be wrong with order. I really hate that place. I always leave the store totally PO'ed.
