not-quite-Disneyland mint julep

Hi everyone!

I know there are others here that like the mint juleps...

I've come up with a fair substitute for when you crave that carbonated toothpaste. It's not quite the same, but as I said, fair enough, I think!

pour some Torani creme de menthe italian syrup over ice in a tall glass

take a can of sprite (i'll have to try diet b/c the regular concoction is a bit too sweet for me) and pour it over

mix and enjoy! increase or decrease syrup to your own liking...

I've always wanted to try a mint julep, but when I read a description of the Disney version, I wasn't so sure. I think it said lemonade, limeade and mint syrup. (Does it have soda in it as well to make it bubbly?) I think it's the syrup that is a turn-off for me.

Does anybody know what is in a real one? I was picturing it made with crushed mint leaves, and that does sound good! (DH bartended in college and made a few drinks with crushed mint and limes, mmmm!)

the Disney one is bubbly...it comes out of the soda machine. That's why I thought of the sprite and mint syrup. Here's a recipe for a REAL mint julep:

I love the DL mint julep. If I could figure out the exact mixture, I'd be sooooo happy.

I hadn't been to DL in a while when I visited my dad in '91, we go to DL and first thing we get are churros. We make our way to New Orleans Square, and he announces it's mint julep time. Then when I took my wife there for the first time on our 1st anniversary she tried them. I don't think she is as big of a fan of them though.

I crave them from time to time, like right now. Thanks alot

Hmm, I've never had bourbon so not too sure about that. I've pretty much given up on alcohol since even a small amount makes my face very splotchy red.

I may have to try one of the DL ones, though. Is it super-sweet, or kind of tart? I love tart drinks! Oooo, maybe have DH brush up on his bartending skills and concoct something...!

it's sweet...but you know what, if you made your own, i bet you could make it tart with some lemon or lime juice...or sweet & sour mix?

I lied. It's not bubbly. I had one yesterday. I think using limeade will make it better. I'm going to try using the Minute Maid limeade light and my torani syrup. I'll let you all know how it turns out!
