Not on Dining plan

If we are not on a dining plan, can my 10yr old son still order from the kids menu?? (We'd just be paying cash for meals.)

My 10yr old son is very picky - no veggies, plain hamburger, pizza type of kid. So I was thinking maybe we wouldn't do the dining plan this year - for a couple of reasons not just his picky-ness - and then he could order off the kids menu?? Or is this taboo?? (Don't flame me - I'm just asking if this is ok)

Depends on the restaurant. Most will probably allow it. Have seen a couple of posts from various restaurants from guests who were told anyone over 9 had to order from the adult menu. It might even depend on the server you get as to whether it's allowed or not.

It would not be permitted to pay the child's price for him at any buffet, all you can eat family style restaurant, fixed price restaurant, dinner show, or the all you can eat skillet at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

As TDC Nala mentioned, you will need to pay the adult price for your son at buffets and family style meals, etc. and CMs may respond to requests for children's meals differently. But I'll add our experience in case it's helpful to you!

We have three boys, and two of them are pre-teen "Disney adults!" One of our pre-teens has eating habits that are very similar to your son's. We've been to WDW twice and DL once this year, and our pre-teens have always been able to order from the kids' menus at table service restaurants. At several restaurants, the servers even offered our pre-teens both the children's menu and the regular menu. At Garden Grill, our server told them they should feel free to request more children's items and offered them the children's dessert. So our recent experience with pre-teens ordering from the children's menu at table service restaurants has been very positive!
