Not often do I get entertainment like this at work

My morning did not get off to the best of starts - went to head to work and my car's tire pressure system shows that one of my tires is low. :headache: I get out and look at the tire, sure enough, there's a screw in the tread.

So, I detour on the way in to the tire place down the street from me, where I bought the tires from. My hope was to get in and get a quick repair and get to work. Turns out, they are booked with appointments straight through to noon. :worried:

I don't have a lot of options, so I head to the McDonald's a couple doors down to get some work done. And I'm now sitting across from the retirees of the area, waxing poetic about every possible topic you can imagine. These guys are a riot! :rotfl2: I aspire one day to have that kind of time on my hands - although I'd prefer to be on the golf course instead. ;)

My uncle is one of those men. He says he goes to McDonald's many mornings to hang out with the other older guys.

One of my company's stores is located in the midst of several retirement communities. There are a few outdoor tables. About five years ago I was sitting at a table working on my laptop when I overheard 3 or 4 guys at the next table. They must have been in their late 70's or early 80's. Among other things, they were discussing which widows in the neighborhood "put out" and got quite graphic.

I've done work on McD's wifi before, too. My laptop cover has stickers displaying some of my more controversial political stances, and I got the dirtiest look for this woman who just glared at me and my computer for like half an hour! Fun times!

I could be that guy but I don't like the coffee at mcdonalds, and have no business eatting the food. :)

Why would you give her a dirty look? Or did you mean from her? Gee, that must be fun, to have offensive stuff on your laptop cover, kind of passive aggressive, isn't it? I mean, you have it there, airing out in public, so what do you expect?

Offensive? He said he has stickers with controversial political stances. We don't know what those are because he doesn't say, so saying they are "offensive" is a quite an assumption. I guess (yes, this is my assumption) that the woman belongs to the opposite party, and that's why she gave him a dirty look.

Are you serious? It's the old woman's dirty looks that are passive aggressive. He said "controversial political" not offensive.

My DD21 has the word "equality" in rainbow colors and the HRC symbol among the lighter Kate Spade stickers on her laptop. In her progressive college town these wouldn't get a look unless it was a thumbs up. In this her overly often suffocatingly (even for me) conservative home town it might. There is nothing wrong with the stickers or her opinions though.

To be fair, I said "for" this woman when I meant to say "from" this woman.

My stickers aren't too offensive - at least, if you're on my side, they're not ;) They certainly aren't crude or distasteful. That's not how I roll.

Hoo boy. Open up that laptop at the McDonald's in Cuba, Missouri - especially on a weekday afternoon when the retirees and other older people are there - and she's all but guaranteed to get dirty looks. Maybe even a stern talking-to.

Really. There's nothing terribly offensive about McDonald's coffee as long as it isn't burnt. It's a 100% arabica coffee that's blended and roasted to be smooth. It's not a robusta that's bland on flavor but heavy on bitterness from the caffeine.

I like good coffee. Blue Bottle is incredible. However, I can sit down with a cup of coffee from McDonald's and enjoy it.

I see a lot of these groups when I'm just grabbing something quick on the way to work or just taking my kid for breakfast on the weekends. This is pretty normal and I'm not surprised that they gossip or that what they're saying isn't always "kid safe".

I worked at McDonald's as a teenager and when I did the morning shift on weekends we had our regular group of older men that sat around until about 11 am and talked and got their free refills of coffee.

McDonald's coffee is "pretty OK," to use The Tim Tracker's favorite adjective. A generation ago it tasted like motor oil, but they improved in for McD's new look.

Starbucks coffee tastes like the bottom of an ash tray.

Well - there was a time when McDonald's wasn't terribly concerned about the quality of their coffee. I suspect that McDonald's corporate might not have even been that involved. I could have sworn that I saw the name of a local restaurant coffee distributor on the equipment at some McDonald's when I was younger. They would be serving cheap diner coffee.

The thing about Starbucks is that they're known for buying some of the best beans in their class, paying premium prices to their suppliers. Then they roast those beans to a crisp to the point where the varietal characteristics aren't noticeable. There are other coffee roaster that roast deeper, but not to the point where you can't really taste the beans. I remember the last time I had black coffee at Starbucks. I was someone's guest and he insisted on going to Starbucks. I drank it and it tasted slightly burnt, as well as devoid of any varietal flavor.

Yup, we retired seniors rule! Albeit, we were not seniors when we retired, my husband was 53, and I at 52. We were aiming for Freedom 55. I hope you too may achieve retirement asap. Fwiw, They say golf courses around here, are fast becoming an endangered activity.

Ahhh, yes, the McDonald's coffee klatch. DH's favorite thing to observe on the mornings he stops for breakfast on his way to work. :rotfl:

I wasn't all that surprised either. I was very amused by their conversation. They also mentioned methods for obtaining Viagra without a prescription.
