Not long now - what to take?

We are off next week and I am wondering whether to take my electric curling tongs and hair dryer. Do the hotels have english sockets or will I need a travel plug? I have a travel plug bought already, but previous experience showed me that our electricals don't work half as good as they do at home, i.e. the tongs only reach half their normal heat. I do have a gas set of tongs available, but then you have the hassel of notifying the check in desk that you have them in your bag etc.

Also, having never used a hotel hairdryer I am wondering if they are actually any good?

Most hotels have hairdryers and they're fine as long as you don't need one with a diffuser attachment. I bought a hairdryer in the supermarket during one trip - they're very cheap.

I took staightening irons last time and, although they probably didn't work quite as effectively as they do here, they were usuable, unlike a UK hairdryer. You will need a travel adaptor for anything with a UK plug.

I use the room hairdryers and they do the job just fine. I once took my own hairdryer and travel adaptor plug but the hairdryer didn't work at all well so I gave up.

I plan to buy a hairdryer out there as we're cruising and the cabin hair dryers are said to be pathetic so I figure this will make life easier, and I figure I may also get to go on more cruises ;)
