Hi Everyone! We just got back late last night from 8 wonderful days at the World. Crowds were completely manageable. We even did PM EMH at the MK on Monday night and it wasn't too bad. We only lasted about an hour though, as the kids were way too tired. We also did evening EMH at Epcot, which wasn't too bad, although it did seem more crowded than MK EMH to us. And most suprisingly, Stormalong Bay was not crowded at all the first 7 days. On our 7th day there, there was a wedding reception going on at Ariel's, and then yesterday, Wednesday, August 10th, the pool was crowded. (Not sure if the wedding is the reason, but just an observation.)Not so packed that we couldn't find chairs to put our stuff on, but still crowded.
The YC was great, although it didn't seem as convenient to things as the BC did. I'd probably pick BC if I stayed there again. We were upgraded to a water view, and it was so nice to be able to see Illuminations from our balcony. I was thrilled with that upgrade until the day before we left, we met this wonderful lady who mentioned that she'd been upgraded to the 5th floor. Ok really, I was still happy, just a tad jealous. <g>
BTW, we heard nothing about the death at TL the whole time we were there. I just found out last night at the airport...I wonder if that's why our USA Today didn't come to our room over the weekend.
Soarin' was fabulous. We got on it the first day and all loved it. There were no smells though, and we didn't realize that until we rode it a second time and could smell everything. I did notice that every time I talked to any castmember anywhere though, they asked if I had ridden Soarin'. Are they expected to do that or do they all really love it that much?
The kids loved Stitch's Great Escape. They had never been on Alien Encounter before, but thought this was really fun. The first time though, someone took a very young child on it who gave ear piercing screams the ENTIRE TIME. I honestly didn't hear anything come out of the speakers around my head. I don't think a single person in there enjoyed it because of this. The second time we rode it, there were plenty of giggles, and I could actually hear! I have to say that the intensity of the chili-dog burp has been greatly exaggerated here. It barely smelled. Dh didn't really like the ride, but I liked it ok. One of the lifeguards at the pool asked ds what his favorite ride was and when he said Stitch, she said he's the only person she's heard say they like that ride.
We all agreed that Kali River Rapids was the most disappointing ride of the trip. That ride has so much potential, but it is way too short. That little drop is cool, and just when you think you are getting started, it's over. It has rained on every other trip that we've made to the AK so we were excited to finally ride it. We'll probably never ride it again!
Disney's Magical Express actually worked out pretty well. My only complaint would be that we had to leave 3 hours and 10 minutes before our flight. However, we were the first stop, and it took over an hour to get to the airport because we had to go to the BC, BW, and CBR after getting picked up. Security took longer than I expected at MCO as well. By the time we did all that, checked in, had dinner- we really only had a 45 minute wait.
That's the basics, I'll work on my trip report this weekend, but will be glad to answer any questions while it's still fresh in my mind! This is our second time going in August, and as far as all the off-school times to go, I think it's the best and would not hesitate to do it again. We went in late August 2003 and early August this year and I thought the crowds were the same.
