NOT getting married in WDW...Romantic ideas?

Hello folks! I've been reading the DIS boards for a few months now, and this is my first real post. Before I ask my question, a little background:

I was never really a big Disney fan growing up. I went with my family twice when I was fairly young (about 10-12, I'm 26 now), which was quite fun, but I didn't appreciate it at the time(I was even there for Christmas once!). As I got older, I always took the 'anti-Disney-as-big-evil-corporation' attitude about WDW. A few years back I met my girlfriend, (and soon-to-be fiance) Antonia, and last year, her family took me along with them for a weeklong vacation at WDW.

I had THE greatest time. I'm not sure if it was because I was with her or if it was The World(prolly a bit of both), but before we even left I was hatching a plan to come back with her someday.

So now we've been together for almost 3 years, and we're making plans to get married in the next year or two. We've discussed the subject, and though I would really like to get married at Disney, she and her father(who will be paying for it) have their heart set on getting married elsewhere(Napa Valley, perhaps). Since we'd be in CA, it might be a little odd to fly all the way to Florida for the honeymoon, so that's probably out too.

So I'm thinking I should try to make our first trip special. It won't be till almost a year from now, but it can't hurt to be well thought-out, right? If I have the ring by then, I might propose there, which is probably a whole other post. But what would you folks suggest that I might plan? Perhaps something that we can make into a tradition?

Ooooo, a romantic. I have a couple ideas:

1. Take a private (or a not-so-private, whatever) fireworks cruise and propose there.

2. Propose at Cinderella's wishing well.

3. Propose at a character meal-you'll get LOTS of attention.

4. Take her to see Cirque du Soleil's La Nouba and propose after that.

5. Or a moonlit stroll around Coronado Springs or PO Riverside

6. Oh, you've got me goin' now. There are tons you can do.

By the way, Disneyland does weddings, too, since you mentioned CA.

Good Luck!

Good idea. *writing that one down*

2. Propose at Cinderella's wishing well.

Sounds cute, not sure where you mean though.

 Haha! That would be really cool--but I'm not sure how she'd react to so much attention...not like she'd say no or anything, I would just want her to feel happy and not embarrassed.

4. Take her to see Cirque du Soleil's La Nouba and propose after that.

I don't think she would like Cirque. I vaguely recall hearing negative comments about them before...is La Nouba anything special, or just the usual Cirque du Soleil?

5. Or a moonlit stroll around Coronado Springs or PO Riverside

I had thought of this one--when we went last year, we stayed at CS, and it was very beautiful at night, very romantic to walk around the lake, reflecting the moonlight...gotta check out PO Riverside though, I'm not familiar with that resort.

There was a thread around here someplace that had a bunch of similar ideas, but they were mostly proposal ideas, IIRC...

I was thinking of that, but I think she really wants to let her father plan the actual wedding, there seems to be some sentimental value there, judging by the vibe I get when we talk about it. She's the younger of two girls princess: in her family, and her sister was married two years ago.

Really good ideas, thanks a lot mufasa0505!

You should probably go out and have TONS of fun!! Do exciting crazy weird things that you definantly will never forget! Try Pleasure Island, or or go to Animal Kingdom with those scary dinosaur rides... or just chill out in the hotel... :D Whatever it is, I'm sure you both will have a ton of fun together and it will be memorable! Have fun!!

With Love,

You've heard negative remarks about Cirque? That's unusual. La Nouba is their resident show in Downtown Disney. It's great. Cirque has shows on Bravo every so often. That would give you an idea if you'd like it.

About the Wishing Well-it's near the castle, kind of on the way to Fantasyland (I think). Not many people know it's there, so it's kind of quiet. I've heard of guys having their princess make a wish at the well and proposing there.

I should have been more specific; what I meant to say was that I think I've heard her say negative things about Cirque. I kinda like it, but I dunno if I could sit through a whole show myself.

I used to work for a company in the mall called Store of Knowledge, it was kind of a Discovery Channel Store for PBS. They had a big video screen showing a demo loop of some of the PBS videos we used to sell, and Cirque du Soleil's Quidam was one of them. I remember thinking it was neat the first few times I saw it, but over time the music became terribly irritating and I found the surrealism a little overbearing. Mind you, this was something I saw and heard non-stop for 8 hours a day, for often several days at a time, so I'm what you might call a special case.

I should run the idea by her and see what she thinks. I'm sure the La Nouba show would be significantly different from Quidam, and the novelty would help.

I'll have to look into that and see if I can work that in someplace. Speaking of princesses made me remember another useful fact:

She LOVES Princess Jasmine from Aladdin. She has a little Persian ancestry someplace and used to look a lot like Jasmine when she was younger. Maybe there's a way I can work that into the trip...perhaps working this into conversations with CMs before and during the trip might help me along a little...
