Not Feeling The Magic So Much...

Warning: This is a temporary pity party. Nothing more. I'm still going to Disney and still going to have a great time and still excited! :woohoo:

However, I'm kind of feeling that, little by little, the magic isn't as much as it was a few months ago...

First, found out that both Muppets 3D and Jungle Cruise are closed the whole time of our vacation. I know--certainly not the end of the world! However, these are two rides that my kids love! They actually love the lame jokes on JC so much! Yes, there's still plenty of other rides, but just that first little dip in the magic...

Next, the whole fridge deal at the resorts. We've done three trips at value resorts, all before they had fridges in the rooms. We survived. Collapsible cooler and lots of trips to the ice machine and we made do. But having a fridge in the room just seemed like such a nice idea! Just one thing I didn't have to worry about. Don't know where we'll be with that when we get there---haven't heard anything more in a while. Just not looking forward to the whole cooler/ice thing!

Then I hear about the FP+ testing going on next month. We're not at one of the test resorts so we'll be relying on the old system. At this point, no one knows what effect this double dipping test will have on the rest of us, but I can't imagine there won't be at least some impact.

So, no, nothing here is a deal breaker by any means! But just kind of feeling like, okay, what's next.....?

Thanks for letting me vent a bit!

Now, back to being happy because we're going to Disney! :yay:  :cool1:

They aren't pulling the fridges...

UPDATE 7/13/2013:
Guests currently in Walt Disney World are reporting back to us with more information on this process. WDWFG Forum Member MrHub tells us "They are definitely not pulling all fridges, just one model." Disney was asking to check the fridges in occupied guest rooms to be sure all was good. The Manager MrHub spoke with said that "they are just pulling the one model until they get replacements." Mr Hub is staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

I hate it when my fave rides are down when i am there. JC is one of my faves ;)
Hope you have an amazing trip anyways :)

Maybe it's time to take a break from WDW and vacation someplace else for a year or two.

I love how people just come here to vent about a few little things and then something drastic always gets suggested like maybe you should just cancel your vacation. :rotfl: oh well, takes all kinds I guess.

Well, actually that's what we do now! Our last trip was in 2011. It's EXACTLY because we don't do this all the time, that I like things to be extra special when we do go! And, really, I prefaced the whole thing saying these aren't deal breakers--just felt a need to vent a bit. Guess that's not allowed!

Holy cow people it was just a thought....I wasn't being nasty. I certainly didn't say 'cancel' the trip.

mom -- sorry to hear. I understand. When we went a few years ago, my boys were crushed that rock and roller coaster was down. no worries!! they may find a new favorite attraction now.

I'm curious with the new system coming up as well.

I know how you feel. I am kind of bummed about the fridges. We usually stay in a studio but are staying in a regular room this year so we are used to pretty good sized fridges and now maybe no fridge at all.

I will miss Muppets, but my kids don't like Jungle Cruise. We have gone when our most favorite rides have been down (splash mt, big thunder mt, space mt, toy story, test track). So compared to the bigger headlines, I feel lucky about the closures so far. It still does stink but on the bright side it is one less thing I have to cram into the touring plan.

Now for the FP+ - we are staying at AKL - I keep hearing conflicting things about whether we can use the old FP system or not. I don't want to use FP+ and I am seriously considering switching resorts...

Cheer up. You will be at Disney. You will have a wonderful time.

I'm really bummed that the MK railroad will be closed during our trip. My son LOVES it. We don't care for Peter Pan, but I'm worried that it will congest crowds elsewhere in Fantasyland. I'm a bit upset about the possibility of no fridge, but we can make do with a cooler and ice. And I'm keepin' on dreamin' that FP+ will NOT be in place by October. Mainly because I just used fastpass for the first time last year and felt like I got it down pat, and don't wanna change to another system!

But this will only be my third trip in almost 20 years, and like you said, you want things to be magical when you can't go very often. I can see where those who can go more often just think--we'll catch it next trip, what's the big deal?

However, these are all very minor thoughts to me and I spend most of my planning time focusing on what we CAN do.

You must be going around the same time as we are. My DDs still love the Muppet show and when they heard it was closed said they could stand in front of the theater and do the entire show since they have it memorized.

I understand what you mean. One summer we were there when Space Mountain was closed and that was a huge bummer when we heard it, but once you are there, there is so much else to do you hopefully won't think about it.

We're going 8/25-8/31 and from MA, too! Whereabouts are you up here?

And thank you all for understanding my little vent here! I know everything is going to be fine and we're going to have a blast, just feel like there's these few little nagging things.

But we're staying at POFQ, our first moderate trip. We were able to get the ADRs we wanted (free dining PIN!!!). My oldest DS requested all new restaurants this year, so we're trying a bunch of new places. We're making a side trip to Legoland, which is my youngest DS's "Holy Land"! So all in all, it's going to be fine. We all just need to unload every once in a while!

I understand how this stuff could take a little of the magic out of your trip. :worried: My son wasn't tall enough to ride Space Mountain on our last trip and is finally tall enough this time... Only it's going to be down for refurbishment everyday we are there except our check in and check out dates. So it looks like we'll be making sure we hit it as soon as we get there! Keep your chin up and just remember that there are so many more things to do. It will just make your next trip super special when those are back open!

We are going 12/29 - 1/4/14 - my TA said FP+ may or may not be in place by then. However, I've also been reading that guests can still stick to the old system. But, if you switch...you need to switch all the way (only use the bands with fp+, use special show areas, etc.)

I don't get the fridge uproar. First, they aren't pulling every fridge at the same time. As guests check out they will remove the defective fridge and replace it as soon as they can. So you still have a good chance of getting a fridge. Second, would you really want a fridge model in your room that is known to have a defect and could possibly be dangerous?

I get that people with special needs NEED a fridge and and am all for Disney accommodating that. But these threads where people are threatening to cancel their trip because they paid for a room with a fridge that they may or may not get are being overly dramatic. And OP, you are not one of those that I just mentioned.

You just have to trust in it. Usually the magic happens when you are not looking for it. My grandpa always said "if you go looking for a problem, you will always find it". The magic for me has always not been about disney, but being with my family in disney. Have a great trip!

Well, the info about the fridges sounds promising.

Have a wonderful time, OP.

:)

Sounds like you don't have to worry that much about the fridge.

And while the Muppets and the Jungle Cruise are your kids' favorites, this is a good chance for them to find other things to do. There always is an attraction or two down at Disney World - it's just that these mean more to you. On your last trip, I'm sure there were attractions down that had others bummed.

I don't think Disney is going to screw anyone out things with the FastPass Plus system. It hasn't even really been rolled out yet.

I'm going for Labor Day and then again for the Food & Wine Festival. For Labor Day, I may or may not have a fridge. I'll make do. I have no idea if FastPass Plus will be implemented for either trip but I'll make do.

Why? Because on my last trip, my husband and I spent a very expected and long day in Animal Kingdom. We had no idea we had been there that long. We did a lot of things and had a very enjoyable day. That's the magic of Disney World. Not fridges or FastPass Plus. Just being there with your family.

I think the different vacation came because your OP suggested you might have been to WDW "a few months ago". I don't think there was anything mean spirited intended by th PP.

I'm going back next month, too. I was sort of bummed to hear JC would be closed as well. So I just made sure to ride it twice when I was at Disneyland last weekend. And with BTMRR being closed at DLR, it will be more special this time around at WDW.

I'm in the same exact boat. No Muppets. No Jungle Cruise. No Magic Band tester.

Not deal breakers, I know we will still have a great time, but kind of a bummer.
