I need your opinions.

I'm the type NOT to re-use old resort mugs, fit 5 in a room meant for 4, or pass a 3 year old off as 2 so I can get them in a park for free.

But...

We're booked at the Poly for our December vacation. I'm the type that's really cold all the time, even when everyone else around me is warm. I don't like swiming in pools anymore because of this, no matter how warm the water is, I'm always freezing in it!

So of course, hot tubs are like heaven to me. I didn't realize that the Poly dosn't have hot tubs like the other Deluxe hotels when I booked, though. I know we aren't supposed to pool hop, but could I pretty please use the hot tub at GF or CR for 20 minutes one or two times during our stay? It will just be little old me, I promise I don't take up much space....

I feel guilty for even asking! Getting ready to duck...:duck:

You could always switch your reservation over to GF or one of the other deluxes. That way it would me easier for you to soak in the hot tub everyday if you wanted to.

I think it all depends on when in Dec you're going. If the pools are crowed it could be a problem. We have used the pool at GF while we were at the Poly. But it wasn't during peak season. ALL they can say is no !

Use the hot tub at the spa. It's a short walk from the Poly and oh so nice. Many times I was there and I was the only one. They also have a steam room, sauna, beautiful lounge area and showers. You wouldn't have to worry about being cold at all and the healthclub is now free for resort guests of the Poly and GF.

I learn something new everyday! Thanks!

I hate to do something against the rules, but on the other hand, it's not like I'm dragging in 10 kids to use SAB, either! I don't even want to use it everyday. Thanks for the tip!

So, where are all the people who have posted on other pool hopping threads about this being a horrible crime? Is it because the OP is staying at the Poly rather than POP?

If everyone staying at the Polynesian while you are there, follows you over to the Grand Floridian and adds just "one more person" to the tub, well you get my point.

If a hot tub is important then I would book a resort that has one or as suggested use the Health Club then no rules are broken and no paying guest is inconvenienced by the hot tub being over crowded.

Comments like this are why these discussions turn into an arguement.

Actually, I think arguments start when a person asks a question and are other people pass judgment on them for even asking the question.

I thought all the deluxes had a hot tub, it didn't occur to me that Poly didn't, especially since they just rehabed the pool area not that long ago. It's too late to change now. Had I known, I would have taken it into consideration.

Anyway, since the spa/health club is okay for me to use as a Poly guest, then that's what I'll do. If I hadn't asked the question, I never would have found this out, so it never hurts to ASK something.

Thanks again! :wave2:

Note that pool-hopping is prohibited for everyone, except DVC members staying at DVC resorts. So if you buy in at SSR, stay there one night, you could hot tub hop over to GF if you wanted and remain within the letter and spirit of the rules. Of course, SSR has lovely hot tubs already, as do all the other DVC resorts.

According to the rules, DVC members can pool-hop anywhere on site, except for SAB and the pool at AKL, plus at high occupancy times pool-hopping privileges are temporarily suspended. But in order to pool-hop legally, all you have to do is show you DVC membership card, check with staff that the pool is not overcrowded (they can turn you away at their discretion) and hop in.

In your situation, Chicago526, I think the spa at GF would be the best bet. Yeah, you'll have to pay a little bit, but you would be doing the right thing. Good luck!

Understandable, the Spa will certainly be more enjoyable than an overcrowded outdoor spa with small children using it for a pool. But then that is another discussion, :)

Enjoy your stay! The Health Spa will be much closer to the Poly also saving you some walking.

I'm the type who brings back mugs, just at the resorts where I was told it was ok to do so.

I'm the type who will try another pool, but only if I ask at the desk first (although this has only happened twice in five years..and never during busy time. Note I said with permission).

I'm also the type who is paying adult prices for the grands in February, a mere 2 weeks after they become "adults) (although Chef Mickey's diff in price near made me choke..but they will be going as adults...darn kids better eat some of that food).

That said, if you think all the above are wrong..why would this be right? It's like if you want to do that certain something, even though you are saying you aren't like "other people" doing all the "wrong things", you are only one person, etc. then for you it's OK...and you are looking for others to tell you it's OK. Well, when I want to reuse my mug, I'm one person, when I want to swim, I'm one person, when I bring in a two-weeks past his birthday (actually, it's two of them LOL) I'm one person. I'm sure you get my drift.

I'd use the spa you can pay to go in or change your ressie if YOU think it's against the rules. You prob wouldn't enjoy it, thinking you would be "caught".

PS call it what it is..pool hopping without permission :)

It's why I asked the question, I wasn't sure if it WAS right or not. I knew bringing the whole gang to another pool for a whole afternoon was a no-no, but I wasn't sure if just one person using a hot-tub for a 1/2 hour really counted or not. If I wanted to just do it and hang the rules, I wouldn't have bothered to post and just gone ahead. I guess the reason I did ask was for the same reason many bring back usable mugs. CM's told them they could or never knew they weren't supposed to to beging with. I thought maybe this was a case of the official policy being "no" but the CM's at the resorts telling you it's okay. If I hadn't asked the question, I never would have thought about using the spa at GF, or know that it is free to Poly guests. So it never hurts to ask.

If 100% of the answers had been "no, how dare you" then I would have happily refrained. If it was 50/50 I would have refrained. If it was 100% "go ahead, no one cares" then I might have gone ahead with it. But since the response I got was mixed, and some one suggested the spa, then I'll gladly use the spa (someone said it was free, the other said you had to pay. I'll happily pay, I just want to be neck deep in hot water!).

I was always taught that the only dumb question is the one not asked. Also that the worst someone can say is 'no'.

BTW, from what I understand, the new mugs now say "good for length of stay at this resort only" or somthing like that. The CM's are supposed to enforce it now, too, although that remains to be seen. Just an FYI. :wave2:

Yep, I know what the new ones say. Those will stay home:)

If you really thought this was a rule they didn't enforce, then certainly it was worth asking. But in that case, since the mugs aren't enforced, I guess reuse of those WOULD be alright in your eyes. That's the point I was making. I thought you started off saying all the "rules" you didn't break, and wanted to know if this one was ok to break. Usually, the people who say "it's the rule!" for the mugs, pool hopping, (and I assume using ketchup and salt for their own items in the foodcourt LOL) also agree they don't break any of the other rules. Me, sometimes I'm a scofflaw!:earseek:
