Today was a half-day for the kids so we met our friends/neighbors at a local roller skating rink. I have lived in this area for over 10 years and had never set foot in there so we wanted to do it while someone we knew was there. We were just going to look.

Well, we also skated! It was the first time on skates for DS8 & DD4. And after not skating for over 20 years, I tried in-line skating for the first time. All the other Mom's were on the side-lines watching their kids, but Linda (48) and I (43) were whizzing around the track and doing ok. I say Yay! for us older women! :) I was just so proud of myself! Of course I won't be able to walk tomorrow......and the last time I was on skates I didn't have to worry about falling and breaking a hip.... The kids are asking when we can go again! :)

My 13 year old asks me often to learn to roller blade but breaking a limb would be just my luck.

I have inline skates...but I can't not skate with them. I will stay with my regular skates. Good for you for getting out there and enjoying the place.

I'm 38, and I love my in-line skates! It is a terrific workout too.

You may feel sore tomorrow, but if you do it often enough you won't be as sore.

Glad you had fun today!

Good for you! :D

I guess next time I go to Skate Palace I will have to try the inline skating. I was afraid to try it, thought I would be more on my behind than on my feet. My poor daughter is still learning and was falling quite a bit, but they do get better with practice. Luckily she will get some more practice during spring break.:Pinkbounc

Woohoo! Great job! My youngest DD has been asking to go skasting. It's been a while since I've been on skates of any kind.

Good for you! :)
I love skating. I haven't tried inline skating, but then, I want to be able to walk the next day. ;) I go once or twice a year, so I'm not that good, but it's fun. :)

My Dad recently "made" my mom sell her in-line skates. She's 65!

Good for you!!! THat is great that you went out and did it! YOu have created another fun memory, and I bet all those mom's that were on the sidelines secretly wished they could go out as well. Sad for them, they didn't get the enjoyment that you so obviously did. Glad you had a good time.

Way to go!!!! At 53 I'm a little hesitant to get on the darn things. Could never roller skate, but can ice skate. dd, 9, has just started in-line skating and doing quite well. She wants me to join her, but I'm just not so sure my old knees can take it!!!

An update the day after... :)

I feel great! For those of you who are hesitant about trying - go for it! It's really not so bad. My ankles were killing me in the beginning until I figured out how to hold myself up. Then I was ok. I have a couple of blisters today but no worse for the wear. If you have a rink nearby you can check the hours and see if there are slower times. That way you won't have all the kids zooming by :)

Cthia....it was skate palace we went to! Right down the street from us. We may see you there during april vacation!

Thanks for the encouragement! :)

Glad to hear you are not in alot of pain. I guess hearing that I think I actually may give that a try and not sit on the side watching my daughter skate. :D

I grew up in the area and Skate Palace was the place you would go rollerskating on Fridays and Saturdays. I would not go there at night, those kids can go so fast now especially since they can do the inline skating now. :p
