Not accepting the Disney gift cards for payment?

It is currently cashless since the main resort isn’t open and they aren’t staffing the front desk (you have to go to Kidani (we just got an email about it)). Sadly, the Mara isn’t even open ;(. Honestly, I don’t have a problem of walking over every couple of days and using my gift card to pay my balance, but it seems dumb not just to run it in the beginning. On the cruise line they make a big deal about “keep your gift card” because if there is a balance left at the end (yeah right lol) it will go back to the gift card. My family does only debit, no credit cards anyway, so maybe that’s why they took the gift card- since I don’t have a “major credit card”? We do have Schwab so I think sometimes people think it is a credit card but it’s only debit. No real clue- but I will let you know on October 4th what happens!
I thought the poster was referring to when AKL tried going cashless a few years ago. Please let us know. Have a great time.

back to the original question - IF you are able to put a gift card and give yourself credit what that do away with them hitting the gift card ever so many days like they do with the credit card?

That is how it worked for me- I was there for five days- it would just eat into the credit and I ran out on the last day and it hit my credit card after we checked out.

Was just there two weeks ago (BCV). I had a $100 gift card (printed out on paper). They can apply it to your account at the front desk only after you make your first purchase (my room was paid in full prior to my visit). So, after I had made a purchase, I went back down to the desk and they applied it.

I wonder if that's the trick - you have to have a balance due, and then you can "overpay" the balance with your gift card.

Open question: If I planned to use my gift card on this vacation and they would./could not accept it, then would they be willing to convert my alternative cash payments or credit card charge(s) into a charge against my gift card value plus appropriate refunds after the system was fixed and perhaps I had gotten back home by then.

If you had that balance at check-out, it would have been because you had made the charges to your room the day before. Each type of resort has a max they allow to be put on the account before they run the credit card through.

Room-only stays don't charge your card for the room until the end of the stay.

Okay so final report- Animal Kingdom would NOT take the full balance of my gift card. I asked several times and in different ways and the answer was just come each day and especially the last night. Also, I oddly saw a hold on my card every day (disappeared after I used the gift card), but just an FYI on that if you don't do credit cards (we use only debit- and yes, I know that has its downsides, but we made bad choices with credit cards when we were young and they still scare me). It was no big deal just to go down and do it since Jambo house was so empty, but it may make me reconsider this strategy in the future. Also, with all the pre-ordering at counter service (which you can't charge to the room), it makes it easier just to use gift cards that way.
