Just wondering how many have actually had their loaded RV weight checked. Many people are driving in overloaded rigs that can result in serious events taking place.

Since some manufacturers only consider 2 passengers in the weight calculations for a safe cargo capacity, I wonder if those driving with a group of 4 or 5 or more people really understand that they could all be in danger because of overloading.

Only costs about $8.00 to $10.00 to obtain this very important information.

John,

Excellent advice! I get mine weighed at least once a year on the way to a camping trip to see the weight when fully loaded.

For those who don't understand the different "weights" involved in towing, I have an explanation on my Towing & Hitch Information page. While my website is directed to pop up campers, the weight information applied to TTs also.

At the bottom of the page is an explanation on how to weigh, including getting the tongue weight. For those who don't know where a nearby scale is, there is a link to CAT scales.

Initially when we bought our TT we, like the majority of people, I think, significantly underestimated the weight of our loaded setup. Right away we realized that we were not comfortable pulling with the truck that we had at that time (which we had only had for a few months) and while we were upset at having to trade trucks it was worth it to get one that could safely pull the trailer.

When we weighed we were shocked. We do NOT pack heavy at all, either. It is scary to think about how many folks are out there driving with totally inadequate pull vehicles, based on what salesmen have said, or what they, in their inexperience, "guestimate" their weight is. :(

Every year just before we go on vacation, we scale ours at the TA just down the road. We have a very heavy trailer as it were so weighing in now and again is important. We have the horse to pull our trailer (F-350 powerstroke)so that is NO problem. Beins how DH is a truck driver being over weight is always on his mind.

Everytime we take a trip we see large campers being pulled by a truck or suv that is not set up for weight. We learned the hard way to buy the biggest truck you can afford.
