Not a Great Trip @ CSR

Just used google maps to measure the distance from the room we were assigned 1117 to the lobby 2200 ft
and from the room to bus stop 2 2365 ft seems we were closer to the lobby by a little less than 200 ft. I wonder if walking at a brisk pace would make a 1/4 of a mile walk in 2 mins? Based on http://www.walkingenglishman.com/walktime.aspx it is 6 mins. where did the 2 mins come from? was it measured from room 1117? using the actual walkway to and from the lobby? Based on our fitbit we walked 16 miles a day on our busiest day and 12 on our slowest day. We are avid walkers and visit our gym 5 nights a week. But if I paid to be close to the lobby or Transportation then that's what i expect. With a convention checking in the day after me should have no bearing on where i am assigned. That was the justification for the room assignment that was given from the front desk. I am glad that my inconvenience is not the norm as so many of you experienced great service at this resort. But for us we will pay to be at GF. Even staying at POP in 2008 we did not have these issues. Also stayed at ASM and sports. The preferred rooms are very convenient there. And At Contemporary as well.

Your assignment was one of the rooms as close to the lobby as it is possible to get at CSR. So you did indeed get what you paid for. If you are avid walkers I can't imagine why you would want to even take a cart from your building to the front--it is right next door. It sounds like you had expectations that were all but impossible to be met. I agree, CSR (or any moderate) is not a fit for you.

Looking at this map, how could your room be so far from the lobby that you found it to be un-walkable?http://allears.net/acc/ResortMaps/Coronado Springs.pdf

Buildings 1, 2, and 3 are the only preferred buildings at CSR. You were in the one closest to everything.

I'm not sure what measurements you're using, but I can walk a lap around the entire resort in 10 mins at a brisk pace and 15 mins at most at a crawl. This exaggeration of walking times/distance comes up quite abit on DIS. There is a video on youtube where someone has filmed themselves walking from the farthest point of Ranchos 7A to the food court. It took exactly 7 mins and you can clearly see the normal walking pace in the video.

One of our CSR stays we stayed in a 4th floor room in Casitas 4 which is much farther to the food court than your room. We made that walk probably 30 times. It was 3 mins with just my son and I, it took 4 mins if DW was with us.

I wouldn't just say moderates. There are quite a few room locations at various Deluxe resorts that are easily a 5 min walk to the lobby as well. Only difference is the walk is inside. I personally prefer to walk outside on vacation. :)

Then I should of not paid for a preferred room saved my money and stayed in Casitas 4 (by construction) if the walk is better than what i went through. The walkway from Casitas 4 via the scenic walk by the lake is 975 ft based on google maps. Did you check the distance from room 1117 before replying?

We stayed one night in CSR after being unable to drive home during the storms in SC. Since we made a last minute phone reservation it was the only room we could get for the night. After having the concierge spend over an hour trying to "fix" our magic bands we never were able to use them for the night. The room, food court, and resort layout were not something we cared for. In all fairness we had stayed at AKL for the rest of our stay, and this resort paled in comparison. It's disappointing when you don't get expectations met, but it sounds like you had a wonderful trip overall. We used our stay as a learning experience to make us realize we don't want to stay there again.

We are at CSR right now and have had a great experience. We originally had a water King room in casitas 5, but it didn't have a tub so we asked to be moved and they accommodated us and we were moved to cabanas 9b. They even gave us 3 FP+ because it took a while for everything to get done. The problem you had comes from the room you paid for. You paid for a room I the preferred section, which has a limited amount of room and is undergoing a refurb right now. You can't get any closer to the main lobby than the preferred buildings, however some rooms are obviously farther away than others in every building. By getting a king preferred room you limited yourself a lot by what was available to you, especially if a convention buys out blocks of rooms for their attendees. Also, for next time definitely call to have a note put on your reservation about your celebration, faxes aren't all that reliable. We also got engaged in this trip and I called ahead of time to make sure it was noted on our reservation. Oh, and next time I would recommend using the touring plans website to look at the views of the rooms that meet the criteria of what you paid for. It shows you where those rooms are in what buildings and gives you a picture of the view. That way, if you don't like any of the options for that type of room you can change it before you get there and are disappointed.

Better walk to where? The bus stop or the main building?

Also, you can request a specific building but there is no guarantee you will get it. I'm honestly having trouble here seeing what your problem really was. You were in preferred. Those buildings are closest to the main building--the restaurants and gift shop. Preferred does not guarantee you will be close to the first bus stop. Is that what you thought?

Congrats!! Glad you are enjoying your time at the World and they accommodated you. Touring plans shows plenty of king preferred and i even offered to pay to be moved even if it had two queens in it. it seems the convention bought out everything at the resort and many others are complaining about it who were there at the same time we were. My TA looked into it as well.

Congratulations on your engagement. :goodvibes

I just have a question. Is there an important reason why you would need an engagement/proposal noted on your reservation?

We were equidistant from both bus stop 2 and the lobby. If i was closer to either one it would have been a no brainier but it was over 2000 ft away from both.

Honestly, no. We didn't receive anything special until we went up to concierge to see about a room switch. My girlfriend, I guess fiancé now, mentioned she was going to propose and they gave us a complimentary champagne toast as well as the buttons, but you can get those anywhere really.

That is still much closer than most buildings, which is why your location was considered preferred. The only other thing you could have done was pay for business class, if it was available, or pay for non preferred and pray that you were put in the part of building #4 that is close to the bus stop.

I think any resort you stay at in WDW includes a nice walk/hike. I just stayed at the Poly. And I was in Pago Pago. That is not close to the main building. Forget using the monorail that "conveniently" stops in the main hall. We were much closer to the TTC!

I'm not using google maps, touring plans, or anything else to calculate distance. We've spent close to 100 nights at CSR, I know the walking distance. Your stated distance are not close to correct. Casitas 1 where you were is right beside the food court, Casitas 4 if halfway around the resort, how would those rooms be closer? LOL

Our room was 1117 on the backside of building 1 facing parking lot it is not like the rooms facing courtyard which would be closer to lobby. Checked using google maps from room 1117 to lobby was longer than casitas 4 to lobby.

I don't give a fig what google maps claims. There is no way any room in building #1 has a longer walk to the lobby than one in building #4, unless you are walking backwards. Look at the resort map.

Cartoon map vs an actual satellite photo and an accurate distance measure tool?
I go with a proven method of measuring distance vs someones word on a cartoon map.

I'll go with having actually walked the distance at CSR. I've stayed in building #4. No way is it closer to the front than any room in building #1. No way.
