but a trip report of a different sort!

My girlfriend & I just returned back to Homer after 4 wonderful days hiking the Chilkoot Trail!! This was my second hike on this trail, the first time for my g/f. (I hiked the trail a couple years ago with my brother)

The weather started off cloudy, muggy, and sometimes we had sprinkles of rain, but no big downpours. The mosquitoes were pretty bad in the evening. The second day started cloudy but the sky turned sunny and blue after we crossed the pass into Canada; it was the best "Welcome to Canada" ever!! It stayed nice for the rest of our trip.

We hiked 4 days, camping 3 nights. Our longest day was about 13 miles (day one), the shortest day was the last day, only 4 miles. We saw two bears on the trail, but they took off like rabbits when they spotted us. We had to cross a snowfield at the pass and another shorter one a little while later. We slid down the snow, using our hiking boots like skiis! We met the park warden along the trail in Canada (warden is the same as a ranger in the states), he was really nice and showed us a couple of old historic relics off the side of the trail. There are a ton of old mining things along the trail, old parts of shovels, pots/pans, even the remains of an old boat.

We had a great time!

Not sure how many other posters like to hike, but I thought I'd post this short report about my adventure, and if anyone wants to know more, please feel free to send me a PM.
