Northern Italy & Switzerland

Wondering if anybody who has done this ABD trip has done a review. We are doing this next year and would love to hear your experiences. Suggestions are welcome.

We did this trip 3 years ago and I do have a trip report. They have made changes to it though - they omitted the husky interaction and instead it's a boat ride in a nearby lake. They also changed the hotel in Stresa. It's a fun, slow paced trip with gorgeous sceneries!

Despite ABD making changes, I'd love to read your report. Where can I find it?

I didn't do a trip report but I plan on doing this trip again next year, it is incredible! It definitely is a slower paced itinerary, with spectacular scenery. My favorite place in the world is Zermatt, Switzerland! Any questions please ask me, this trip is one of my favorite topics of discussion :)

Thanks for chiming in Jason. I'm really curious about the Switzerland portion. I've read about all the rail routes around the country, including a cog-rail up into the Matterhorn. Did you do that? How about some of the cable cars?

We did the cog-rail. It was a phenomenal experience, up several thousand feet with gorgeous views of the Matterhorn. IIRC, we were about 9,000 - 10,000 feet above sea level when we got off the train, I can't even begin to explain how incredible the scenery was (of both the Matterhorn and the surrounding landscape). We did not do any of the cable cars.

Thanks Tufbuf. My trip report is in the trip report link, on page 3 at the top. This trip remains our favorite. A great balance of organized activities and on your own time. Zermatt is one of our favorite places on earth.

Just arrived! Stresa is beautiful and relaxing! Already found a good gelato spot for ya! Mare1203 will have a full report back for ya! Here's a look at our view from the hotel room!

Absolutely beautiful! I'll be eagerly awaiting the trip report. Northern Italy/Switzerland has been on my radar for a while. The Strese/Como area looks magical, and Switzerland just looks so awesome. And it has the Matterhorn. What could be better than that?! Planning on doing it next year!

When you're there, be sure to take in the traditional spaghetti harvest of Ticino....

If you're in the Lugano area, you'll be close to mi famiglia. ;) ;)

Great view. And I'm looking forward to Mare 1203 report. She did a great job on the Viva Italia.
