A man has been charged by police in Northern Ireland with two counts of making funds and property available for international terrorism. Jaybe Ofrasio, 31, of Hawthorne Street in Belfast but originally from the Philippines, appeared at the city's Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
A detective inspector told the court the charges were related to south-east Asian terror group Jemaah Islamiah, which has links with the al-Qaeda network and other Islamic terrorist organisations.
He said the nature of the alleged evidence against Mr Ofrasio was on computers and that financial and phone evidence was also being examined.
The policeman said inquiries were continuing in Australia and the Philippines in relation to the charges.
The court was told that police were relying upon an alleged association between Mr Ofrasio and another person currently being detained in south-east Asia.
The accused has lived in Belfast for less than a year where he worked as a cleaner and catering assistant, the court heard.
Mr Ofrasio replied "no comment" when charged, the court was told.
He was remanded in custody until 11 February.
