I need a recomendation for an orthopedic doctor possibly orthopedic surgeon. I'd prefer the doctor to be in Alexandria or even Woodbridge. Oh and it's for a broken ankle.

I broke my ankle in May and because the military medical people here take more time than a turtle crossing the street. So 3 months later including 7 weeks of physical therapy, it's been decided I should go see an orthopedic doctor but it will be a civilian doctor because all the orthos on post are full.

So know a good orthopedic doctor possibly surgeon with great hours?

PS: does anyone know a good seamstress? I have several pieces of clothing that need altered.

Can't help on the seamstress.

I have had VERY good luck with Commonwealth Orthopedics. The location I use is right off the Franconia-Springfield Parkway in the INOVA Springfield Center (it's located on the left if you are heading toward Springfield).

My favorite doctor is Dr. Martinelli, but you can't always get in with him right away. I saw one of the other doctors for my ankle/foot in January and he was fine. I got in the day I called and I had great service (no long waits and they spend a lot of time with me). I know many people that use them.

There is another orthopedist in Woodbridge that I've heard good things about and if you'd rather go that way, I can look up the name for you. I've never used him but I think they would be fine.

I second Commonwealth. Even though I live to the west, I've been to a couple of their offices, and they have always been great. I'd recommend any of their offices. Don't know about the great hours, but if you're willing to see a PA (all of the ones I've met are wonderful!), you could get an appt quickly.

Feel better soon.

Don't know about a seamstress, I take everything to the dry cleaners when I need alterations.

I also wanted to mention the podiatrist I go to. She is part of Landmark Foot and Ankle but she is located in Lorton. The orthopedic surgeon I went to a Commonwealth actually recommended her to me. Dr. Jennifer Purvis. I have been very impressed with her. Since it is your ankle, she might work out for you if you need some other options (she also is a surgeon). Sometimes is always hard to know which place you should be with an ankle or foot injury. The orthopedic doc is always a safe bet, but if you need more places to check, I can highly recommend her.

If you don't mind going to Arlington, I would highly recommend Anderson Orthopedics. They are AMAZING. They did my dad's knee surgery, my gran's knee replacement, and two of my back surgeries. I absolutely love them. They're right by Pentagon City on Army-Navy Drive.

Tina -

Don't know what kind of alterations you need, but for basic hemming and easy alterations (sleeves, quick tuck on the waist band, shorten straps) I go to the dry cleaners just outside the Telegraph Rd gate at Belvoir (I think the shopping center is called Landsdowne Center -- it's where the Red Hot and Blue is).

The ladies are sweet and do a good job.

:)

I agree with the PPs about Commonwealth Orthopedics. All four of us have used them. My mom broke her ankle, my dad and my brother both tore their ACLs and meniscus and I dislocated my shoulder. We all used the same surgeon there, Dr. George Aguiar. He is absolutely amazing but he is in Reston, VA at Reston Hospital but I would recommend starting with that practice to find someone.

I have no recommendations, but wanted to say so sorry you broke your ankle and I hope you can get a good recommendation so that it can be well taken care of. I hope you feel better~

....wait....didn't you say you have had so much company stay with you this summer?? You did all that with a broken ankle? Girl, you are waay too nice! Your southern girl hospitality needs to be a little northernized! ;)

Actually if you have Tricare, the military dr can send a referral and they set up a dr to see that is in the tricare system and they take care of all the bills except the co pay. We had them do it for several things that the military system was not able to take care due to limited space because of war victims.
