North of WDW. Hilly or flat?

Does anyone know the nature of the terrain directly north of the MK? Is it flat? There's a place called Harleem Heights that I'm assuming has some elevation.

The reason I'm asking is that my brother is running the Disney Triathlon in May and wants to know if the bike section will be hilly so he knows how to train. They swim in Bay Lake, run across the Osprey Ridge golf course, then bike north along 535 and 536 I think.

Thanks.

Most all of central and southern Florida is essentially flat. Not as flat as a pancake but there really aren't any significant elevations.

I remember taking a timeshare tour where the salesman took me up to an area that showed the terrain all around WDW and I was just AMAZED at how flat it all was! Hotels that were only 7 floors tall could be seen for miles!

Good luck to your brother! The terrain is so important in training, take it from one who lives near "Heart Attack Hill" in the Peachtree Roadrace. It should've been called "Another One bites the Dust"!"

I'm not familiar with a place called Harleem Heights. However, if you go out 535 towards Bay Hill it does get suprisingly hilly for the normally "flat as a pancake" Florida. I'm not sure where the bike route is going but if the map shows them going out 535 past Sand Lake Road, yes they will encounter some hilly terrain. I've heard folks from here complain about the lack of hills in Florida and I remember when I first saw this area thinking -- well this is where they should go!

I looked at homes in Clermont which is located to the Northwest of WDW. The hills there were amazing and beautiful as well. That's a goodly distance from the 535, 536 area though.

My DH is doing the Triathlon at WDW, also.

North of Orlando near Clermont is where it is very hilly. This is really what makes that area so beautiful is because you just don't expect to see that in Florida.

I don't think they bike up anywhere near Clermont. The bike course will probably be pretty flat.

There were a few hills that surprised my DH in the Great Floridian, which is in Clermont but I don't think he expects that this time.

Do they have the bike course map up on the website yet?

I know they did change a few things around because there was supposed to be a mile run between the swim and transition. NOT! DH was very happy to see that they changed this.

Good luck!!!
