North Korea - WTH is going on?!?!??

We are in the wrong place looking for Weapons of Mass Destruction. I'm not a political debator or ever entered one, but this just makes me shake my head and wonder what our government is thinking.

Is anyone else a bit baffled by what is going through North Korea's brain, right now?

:confused3 :guilty:
I am not surprised by North Korea's intentions. Of course I don't agree with it at all. This is all still from the Korean War over 50 yrs. ago. This is why we had the STAR WARS defense set up in the 80's by Pres. Reagan.
GWBush stated North Korea is one of our Axis of Evils a few yrs back.
There will always be wars and rumors of wars, so I'm not surprised.

I'm not sure what to make of it. Seems like Kim Jong Il is looking for a pay-off to me. He threatens to fire up a long range missile, we propose an incentive package to keep him from doing that and KA-CHING, he cashes in.

Then again, a friend of mine stated that he feels it's just a scare tactic from GWB and it's all made up and there's nothing to worry about?? Sheesh. :confused3 I guess GWB's been pretty busy doctoring all those satellite photos and he's managed to even get Japan on board when they issued their strong warning to NK?

Yeah - I heard GWB is a *pro* at PhotoShop.

This is scary stuff - Im suprised we're not hearing more about it.

I also wonder WTH is going on with you getting news from Faux news??!! ;) :goodvibes :rotfl:

In all seriousness, I always considered North Korea more of a threat before we pre-emptively invaded Iraq. Maybe others will see it too.

There's only one thing to do.....invade Iran!

North Korea has actually been the threat all along. They do have the capability to make nukes and now it appears they have the missiles to bring them to us. GWB made a mistake when he picked Iraq to invade. Plus, the president of North Korea seems to be crazed and doesn't really care what he does

See this is where I disagree. We can debate the Iraq invasion all over again but I think part of our reason for invading was to keep Saddam from getting to the point North Korea is at now. Once they have the nukes, invasion becomes near impossible without a major loss of life. NK launching one or two missles into Tokyo (which we know they can do already...they already tested a missle that went over Japan) would probably take much more civilian life than all of the Iraq war.

Let me see if I get this right. Iraq has weapons of mass destrustion. Saddam Hussein is an evil dictator. He kills his own people. Lets invade. Iraq has no wmd. Oh no they are in Syria. Do we invade there? We know North Korea has the capabilty and their dictator is evil and kills his own people. Lets go after the lesser of two evils

North Korea was blatantly the one to go for if the President really wanted another war.

Yeah, invading a country to prevent it from turning into another North Korea sounds stupid, but it's actually really stupid.

I mean, let's invade Antarctica just in case. It's like arresting someone who might become a paedophile and letting the known child molesterer keep his job in a nursery, ie. reckless, criminal behaviour.

The biggest problem though is that North Korea really does have big bombs and might have got annoyed enough to fire a couple off which is obviously why we didn't go after them instead of Iraq.

Iraq had a crumbling regime on death's door; half the army deserted, they had naff all military strength and so on. North Korea, however, has a stronger regime, a bigger more deadly military and so on.

North Korea has been on this path all along, enabled by Madelaine Halfbright and the rest of the Clinton Croney's. They have HAD an atomic weapon since 1998. They have a huge standing army and it would have cut through the Korean pennisula and our 70,000 American troops in S. Korea like a hot knife through butter. Saddam would have pursued a nuclear weapon and much was in place for WMD's. It would have taken no time for him to get up and running once sanctions were lifted. The French, Germans and Russians were working towards that goal.

Shame on Bush for not being the, uh, thing to put a stop to it.

I have no doubt that America would win but there would be unfathomable deaths. Saddam had no nasty things to throw at you but NK does. Advance on the leader and atomic weapons will start hitting home; I believe that this particular tyrant would have no problem in bombing civilian targets just to spite any invading force.

Wow, you haven't so much as missed the point as you have completely ignored it.

The Congo would like nukes and could get some so under your logic INVADE THEM RIGHT THIS INSTANT.

As for going after people who might become a problem in place of people who really ARE problems is just, well, odd.

1. With point #1, You mean, "shame on Clinton" for enabling it. President Bush wasn't elected until 2000 and didn't take office until 2001.

2. The time to stop an aggressive, well armed tyrant is BEFORE that tyrant is well armed. NK serves a purpose for China. There would be airspace to negotiate, South Korea would face annialation. Its too late to invade NK to stop nuclear development. It wasn't too late to stop Saddam.

3. Point #3 is ridiculous. The Congo doesn't have the funds, the means nor the ability to have a nuke. They are only a threat to themselves. Saddam clearly was pursuing WMDS and would have mounted an aggressive campaign to secure them once the sanctions were lifted.

Some of the responses don't make any sense to me. Face the wrath of small goats??? WTH is that mean?

North Korea has been a problem waiting to happen since the cease fire fire was signed in July 1953. Technically we're still at war with NK because no truce offically ending the war was ever signed. All that is in place as of now is a cease fire and that's the reason America has 70000+ troops on the DMZ. They are and always have been considered a human trip wire and NK could easly wipe them out but that would start another war. The DMZ between North and South Korea is like going back in a time machine to the cold war days and Bill Clinton himself called it the "Scariest place on Earth". I have had friends who have served in SK and they all tell the same stories. They all hated being there and found it very depressing. The North has loud speakers that brodcast propaganda and the SK Rock army is always discovering hidden tunnels that the North is trying to build into SK land.

SK is a rich nation, while NK is stuck in the dark ages and it's people starve to death while it's army is always being preped for war. Kim Jong il is a absolute nutjob and so was his father Kim il Sung. They estimate that over 2 million people starved to death in the 90's, but no one really knows the true number due to the secret nature of the NK goverment. NK has become a major problem and no one knows for sure what they will do. One day it's going to come to a head, no matter who's President of the US. Bank on it!

To me this is one of Bill Clinton's bigger failures in his deals with NK and trying to keep them Nuke free. Clinton actually had plans in place to bomb certain sites in NK in 1994. Jimmy Carter helped sign a treaty/agreement in 94 that turned out to be worthless, as we are finding out now. That country can't be trusted and I have no idea how this will be resolved without some kind of force being used.
