Why oh why are these sooo expensive??????? My daughter has been asking for one for the last 2 years for the holidays but I just can't bring myself to justify spending $179 plus tax on a fleece!

There is no North Face outlet near me and I don't trust buying something like this on ebay.

Does anyone know where or how to get one cheaper than $179??

Thanks!!!!

Is it just the particular one she wants that costs that much? Because both my husband and I have one and neither cost near that much.

Someone posted that if you sign up for EMS rewards you get 25% off Northface. Also try Backcountry, Altrec, or Moosejaw. They usually have some good deals.

Bite the bullet!! They really are exceptional in terms of quality and warmth, without being too hot. (A big factor here in NC where it doesn't get crazy cold). We got our daughter a childs size xl, and it's big on her! Dick's will have them for about $99. Our daughter has used it as a coat and robe in the house for the last two years!! :rotfl: She loves that thing! We have definitely gotten our monies worth!

If you don't mind last year's coats, type the exact one she wants into Nextag.com. They'll bring up many sites that someone upthread mentioned. They are reputable sporting goods stores. They'll typically be 30 percent or more off of the new ones' prices. For instance, I bought from 6pm.com and klmountainshop.com. Both had free shipping, and it was really fast!!

Honestly, I don't think think they are superior quality, warmth or anything other than overpriced. But they are The Thing for teenagers to wear around here.

The only way I'll buy them is to hunt on Moosejaw, Cabelas, Backcountry, etc., and find one more reasonably priced in last year's colors. I generally pay between $60-80 that way.

I just found out something totally cool (in terms of sales).

REI has a "garage" sale, usually behind their store in the loading dock area. Pretty much any returns go here. They seem to have a very lax return policy, so some stuff is not in good condition while other stuff looks just fine. Most of the return tags said "did not like fit". There was even a pair of pants that said "for photo shoot". I bought two pairs of Vibram shoes for $30 a piece, and they retail for over a $100. And a pair of pants normally $50 for $10.

It is a hit or miss, but worth it to check it out if you really want a budget jacket. I found a Columbia jacket at a little thrift store. I find that the American Cancer Society stores are much smaller and carry nicer brands than places like Goodwill.

Bass Pro Shops is always sending out coupons and deals for their store. I find Academy sports and outdoors to have decent prices. Almost every website offers emails for coupons and stuff. Plus most the outdoor stores have their black friday ads out at bfads.net, worth a shot if you want to deal with the hassle.

I saw your DIS name is NYC...if you live near, or especially south of NYC there is an outlet center in Flemington, NJ that has them discounted to about $130. It's just called the Flemington Oulet Mall, and they also have a website that discounts, but not as much as in the actual store.

DO NOT buy them on ebay - they are not real.

Good luck! They are worth ever penny IMO, and I am cheap.

It's just an overpriced, hot brand name. I call it being tricked by a business! Search for sales online. I think it's funny that most people don't know what the North Face is! Good luck. Kids are relentless with junk they "have to have".

I love my North Face Denali. I have been looking for a hooded oso though. I bought my DH a North Face denali jacket from Sunnysports.com last year, so I checked there again. I discovered this button that says "Name your price" or something like that on the product page. I clicked on that and was able to input a price I was willing to pay ($99 for a $140 retail item). The next day I received an email from sunnysports.com stating that they could sell me the jacket I wanted for $90.45. I had to call and give them a reference # from my email. That's $50 off!! Woo hoo!

If she can wear childrens sizes and you don't mind last years colors departmentofgoods.com has awesome prices. I got my daughter a denali for 60% off because it was last years color, but it happened to be the color she wanted!

HTH,
Melissa

Just FYI - There are lots of fakes out there. I bought mine at a flea market, knowing that it was not real, and can see a difference in the quality. If you are going to pay good money, make sure that you purchase from a reputable retailer as a previous poster said.

Sign up for Macy's emails and special offers... within the next couple of weeks, they generally run their Friends and Family 25% off sale. I was able to get North Face jackets for both my girls last year @ 25% off :thumbsup2
