We are thinking of going to North Carolina in Feb instead of Disney (GASP!!!!!! )
Anyone been to a cabin or resort that they loved?? We would love to do some outdoor stuff as well as see some sites, any ideas are welcome and appriciatied!!
thansk

Hi! There are lots of pretty places in the mountains! You may want to checkout Asheville or surrounding areas ... Boone, Blowing Rock. Lots of good things to see and do there! The Biltmore House in Asheville is AWESOME!!!

I don't remember any particular cabin rental places, I did a search under google that gave me a HUGE list of cabins and houses to rent. You may even want to look at the NC visitors website. I think it is www.visitnc.com . Good Luck!!!

Which area are you looking at? I know the Boone/Blowing Rock/Ashe County area fairly well. I am beginning to know more about the Asheville area. But I don't know much about rentals. But I could try to pick up some literature for you.

But I have to ask WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? Here instead of WDW? ;)

We live NC mountains. The weather in February can be rather dismal. There are some lovely resorts to choose from and you should get some pretty good off-season rates if you go to Asheville. Were you thinking about skiing? Boone/Blowing Rock is a good area for that unless we get another mild winter. :D

I love Asheville. We go there every other year for a conference. The Cherokee moutains are beautiful!

Where is the best Walleye Lakes/rivers in NC?

Thanks so much for all the ideas!!
So you guys think its not the time to go??We are planning a trip in oct. We have never before so we have know idea what part to go to, also we have never skied before!! :)
We go to Disney ALOT living in Florida, and may still go :) but was thinking my hubby and DD have never seen snow!!!!!

Asheville is my vote! Biltmore is incredible. If you go be sure to do the behind the scenes tour, it costs extra but is sooooo worth it! The roof top tour is great too but not during the cold months! LOL! The restaurants on the property are all wonderful too. Biltmore Village is fun for shopping and there are some good restaurants there too. There are lots of interesting shops in downtown Asheville...there is a general store that is pretty close to accurate called The Mast General Store.

The Grove Park Inn is a great resort and spa in the area.

Can you tell I really like Asheville???? :p

Fall is a perfect time to go but make your reservations early this is leaf watching country!! :teeth:

October is very nice but crowded with people touring the fall colors. You probably won't see snow in October. If you prefer fewer crowds and want to see snow, then Jan/Feb is your best bet. I would stay in Boone/Blowing Rock and take a day trip to Biltmore House in Asheville.

 I'd rather go to WDW than the Smokies (I'd rather have a root canal than go to the Smokies, too;)).

A lady I work with usually uses a company named Honeymoon Cabin Rentals or something like that. She said they have the best cabins. I can't remember the exact name of the place, but it's located up the mountain road that goes to Ober Gatlinburg (TN).

Are you going Feb or Oct:confused: ? We also live in FL and do Disney a lot with those SP's::yes:: . We take the kids to the MTs also as my inlaws have a vacation home up there in the Smokies. We all really enjoy it. I think playing in the creeks was a favorite activity(summer month)! We were near the Asheville area and also visited Cherokee as DS really wanted to. We all enjoyed it. Mast General Store is a must! Fill those buckets with candy::yes:: ! YES, you need to do something outside of FL. We will be flying "somewhere" exciting next summer(after another WDW trip of course;) )

We just got back from the smokies..:p
We used Volunteer Cabin Rentals and they are located in between Pigeon Forge & Townsend and you won't kill your brakes/transmission getting to their places like the chalets on Ski Mountain Road...

If you want any recommendations on places to see in the smokies, feel free to PM me..:D

I live right in the middle of the Great Smoky Mountains in NC! While it is a beautiful area, I would MUCH rather be at WDW!!! ::yes:: (Woohoo, only 3 more weeks!!)

Understanding that you would like to see snow, I wouldn't count on it. We really don't get alot of snow here. So, I wouldn't focus your entire trip around that idea.

In regards to cabin rentals, I agree that it is the best thing to do. (not just because we own cabins, either!) Our newest cabin is "The Treehouse", yet to me, it's "Tinkerbell's Treehouse"! Our guests write comments in a journal, that stays in the cabin, and they frequently mention how they love being able to get away from the hustle and bustle, but still close enough to everything.

If you visit our area in the summer months, there are alot of outdoor activities you could enjoy. But, October is truly the best time, to see the changing of the leaves. Like a previous poster said, "book early, it's peak season!".

Even though we do own cabins (& no, I'm not trying to 'push' them!), we think we are in the perfect place. We are less than an hour to Gatlinburg, and an hour to Asheville. So, you can have easy day-trips & can enjoy Harrah's Cherokee Casino at night! :smooth:

Regardless of where you stay, I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have about our area.
