We are starting to think about our next vacation and I think we have decided that we want to camp for about a week in North Carolina. I have looked online at State and National parks and I am really starting to wonder about our plans. :confused3 I can't find many places that allow trailers, we have a 30 foot camper. Those that do allow trailers don't have reservations...first come first serve. We are wanting to stay on the Western side of the state. We don't have to have electric or even water hookups, but it would be a plus. Anybody know of a nice campground...State, National, or other that allows trailers and takes reservations??? Thanks so much for any and all help! :teeth:

I live in NC we have loads of place for you to go. We have the Smokey Mountains and we have the sea. The Outer Banks are gorgeous as are the Smokies. Most any place will take your trailer. Lake Lure is a beauiful area. You have the Biltmore House close by Lake Lure. We have Grandfather Mountain and we have Stone Mountain. I think Wilmington is nice. Like I said the OUter Banks are beautiful plus you can visit many Lighthouse in the area.

I'd suggest that you consider the SC state parks instead; they're more camper-friendly. By that, I mean they are more accessible to the big metal things pulled behind cars. The NC state parks are plenty friendly to people who like to camp in tents!

I'd suggest Devil's Fork State Park. It's in the western, mountainous area of SC, only a short drive from the NC mountains. Several other SC state parks are located within a few miles, so you'd have plenty of day-trip options. You can also go white-water rafting in the area.

The park's centerpiece is a huge lake so beautiful and crystal clear that you can see fish swimming. You can rent a canoe or pontoon boat and explore the huge lake (along with waterfalls, etc.) or you can fish. I really can't emphasize just how beautiful the lake is in the evenings. It's the most beautiful campground I've ever visited.

Have to say you were sooooo right about the South Carolina state parks...at least so far. The web site is much easier to use, and there are at least 7 state parks in the area we are wanting to visit that allow campers/trailers and take reservations! Looks like we will spend most of our time in SC and just a day or two in NC. We are so excited...thanks for the advice! :goodvibes

Hey I love NC.... :rotfl2:

Seriously I think the parks in NC accept the larger campers. I have family taht uses theirs all the time.

But we like SC as well. Also vacation in Myrtle Beach. I have to say though the last time we went to the Outer Banks was one of the best vacations as a family we have ever had. We had a great time going to all the Light House and to Kitty Hawk.
