Normal to get a letter for successful waitlist?

Is it normal to get a snail mail letter confirming the new reservation on a successful waitlist? I just received a colorful letter confirming my new reservation for a 3 night BCV reservation that I had waitlisted and gotten the email last week that it came through. Maybe I am blanking but don't remember ever receiving regular mail for getting a waitlist met. Is this always done? Just seems somewhat overkill.
