Noooooo! I killed my Tivo!

First off, waaaahhh! Okay, got that out of my system.

My Tivo broke while I was on vacation. Apparently I overused the thing and it couldn't take in new program data anymore. Midway through my vacation it stopped recording the programs I set up because it couldn't take in any new info on the guide. I missed Amazing Race, Monk, Big Brother4, the ManU vs. Barcelona soccer game and all my other favorite shows.

I called Tivo for help and they were clueless. My husband even tried to tell me to calm down, that it's just tv. Just TV! Clearly he does not understand. ;0)

I managed to fix the Tivo by deleting all the program data and to do list (took the poor Tivo over 2 hours to clear it's memory), but I have to think the Tivo must've been mad at me for leaving it alone while I was on vacation or else why would it pick then to explode?

I think next vacation, I'll have to take my Tivo with me. ;0)

Do you think that could be it -- maybe my Tivo really did rebel against my tv taste (or lack thereof). Maybe if I throw in a few Masterpiece Theatres to balance out my reality shows, it'll be appeased.

Our Tivo did the same thing when we went to WDW last year. At the time, the only show I was really upset about missing was the Amazing Race. It's my favorite show of all time.

I love my Tivo. I try to tell people how great it is but only other Tivo owners understand. I tell people that I would get rid of my microwave or my dishwasher before I would get rid of my Tivo.

I currently have the last 5 episodes of the Amazing Race on Tivo. Tell me if you would like me to copy any and send them to you.

I try to set my TiVo to have a much shorter to do list before I go on vacation. I figure that way it won't get overloaded (since I have a mere 14 season passes, LOL!). I agree, life without TiVo just isn't the same at all!

Mine did that once too! It stopped getting new program guide stuff, I didn't get what was going on. Then I realized that it couldn't make the daily call anymore because NYC had gotten rid of 7-digit dialing and I needed to add the area code. Luckily I got it fixed before it stopped taping my shows.. TiVo is the best thing ever!

When I saw the title I was going to ask if everyone liked their TiVo but after reading the post I have my answer. I think I am going to get my dH one for Christmas. I am thinking of getting the 80 hour one. What are the thoughts on that? Did you purchase the update policy outright or did you pay the monthly installments?

Megan's Mom, I think you and your dh will be very happy with a Tivo. We got ours about 4 or 5 years ago so we were able to pay the one time fee for Tivo. It was money well spent. Ours only has ~32 hours on it. I would say to get as many hours as you can. We thought 32 hours would be enough but we could use a lot more.

It really changes the way you watch TV. The only problem with it is that then you want Tivo on everything. I want it when I listen to the radio or when I go to the movies.

Mine survived my 2.5 week vacation. We had set it so it wouldn't suggest new programming while we were gone. Additonally, we have a large hard drive in ours (DH upgraded it himself) so we wouldn't have a problem.

We caught up on BB and Amazing Race and deleted all of the shows. If I'd seen this earlier, I would have saved them and copied them to video so you could watch them.

Before I go on vacations, I usually delete most programs from my saved list, so Tivo can get my season passes as planned, etc. I love my Tivo.

Someone mentioned she wished we could get tivo on our radio. I can't tell you how many times I have missed something on the radio and literally reached for the controls to try and hear the last eight seconds or something. doesn't work!

isn't that the truth! shortly after we got ours about 2 years ago, we were having dinner with my parents. i started talking about how great tivo was and they couldn't get me to shut up. my dad said it sounded like i joined a cult.

dh refers to me as tivo's secret marketing campaign. i've convinced a lot of friends and family to get one. LOL

if they are still offering the flat fee deal, i wouldn't buy it anyways. as one of our friends found out after his broke after 3 months from a power surge, the flat fee is only for the lifetime of that unit...even if it is under warranty and they replace it for free, you still have to pay the $ for the service again. we've been on month to month ever since and we've been happy.

Another Tivo lover here...we just switched to Direct TV so my dh can have all Yankees all the time.

We used to have the pvr from Dish Network that told you how many hours you had left. Does anyone know if there is a screen that tells you that?

DonnaS...any info on that upgrade, I'd love that!

He upgraded a friends as well. It may void your warranty, but we have not had a single problem since we did it.
