Oh my ever lovin' good grief!

My right knee has started having a little painful pull feeling! :crazy2:

Could've been the gym, could've been how I pivot to get in the car...who knows!

All I know is both my knees need to be in Disney shape come October 20th!

What advice can yall give to squelch aches and pains for those of us over 40? Do you have a favorite anti-inflammatory you take to help get through the day?

Thank you!

Frozen peas in their pack (wrapped in a thin towel) for 20 mins on then 20 mins off - three times. Do this 3 times a day to take the inflammation down.

Hope this helps.

R.I.C.E. - Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate

It's the best medicine for knee and joint pain. As PP stated ice your knees on for 15-20, off 15-20, repeat several times, then wrap them (I use ace knee braces) and when possible keep them even or higher than the heart.

Rest is what really heals you but the ice, compression, and elevation minimize the swelling and inflammation which is what causes the pain.

I also use a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement, it seems to work for me but I've read conflicting reports stating it's scientifically proven to improve joint health to it's snake oil. :confused3

I'm only 23, but I've got a chronic ACL/meniscus tear that gives me a lot of trouble.

On top of doing a lot of exercises to strengthen, i take Ibuprofen whenever I have an issue. 600mgs. Doesn't fix the problem or stop the pain, but it eases it a bit and helps the inflammation. Always take Ibuprofen instead of tylenol for that, because Ibuprofen is anti-inflammatory.

I also have SLEEVES i wear, NOT BRACES. Braces make mine worse, but my mom saw sleeves somewhere once and though maybe it might work for me. Good God, they've been life savers. Whenever I feel a pull or a tweak going on, I put the sleeve on and leave it on for about 12 hours, or sleep in it, and it normally fixes it. They are compression sleeves designed to ease swelling, and put pressure on the area to ease the pain a bit, but are not much for support.

If your issue continues, just be sure to take plenty of breaks and time in rides that don't have much of a wait that you can sit on and take a break....like Peoplemover, Spaceship Earth, etc.

All that combined, I still end up in a wheelchair, so it's not miracle stuff. I wish you luck for your trip and hate to hear you are having trouble. Knees suck.

Thanks for clarifying, this is what I was suggesting also, not the metal braces but the sleeves that slip over the knee and compress it. Ace markets them as sleeves, support, or braces but they are all essentially sleeves. They work wonders.

I had Total Knee Replacement surgery on my right knee 11 months ago (im 45 yrs old). I was at Disney in Sept. for 11 days and brought my Cryo Unit.

My Ortho doc gave me a Cryo Unit for my knee, which is Ice Cold Therapy, where you can put the cryo cuff on your knee and sleep with it on all night, or put it on whenever you want.

It helps with pain and swelling. It is the greatest thing ever!

Anyway, you can purchase them on eBay for less than 100.00. They are worth every penny.

There are all different brands and such, but the smaller ones like this are better for travel.

On eBay, just search "cryo cuff knee"

I use Meuller's Jump straps, it straps just under the knee and keeps it from popping. The larger bracers were too uncomfy for long periods. Hope you feel better!

That's all good stuff. Join the world of old people and modern medicine . Advil gel caps works miracles. its the only thing that works for me andi have lots of old injuries

First all, how old are your shoes? If I have added knee or ankle pain that comes out of nowhere, the first suspect is that my exercise shoes have lost their support.

I have knee issues, partly from general overuse and age (active 42 year old Jazzercise instructor and runner) and also stemming from a major PCL/MCL tear caused about 2 years ago when an out-of-control snowboarder barreled me over while skiing. I use a non-metal brace when running long distance and while teaching. Ice helps, stretching!!!!!, and Aleve is my drug of choice (recommended by both knee dr and PT).

Honestly, I am beginning to think my knee has a little twinge because I have been twisting myself to get into DH car. It's a ford focus ST 'hot hatch' with these cool racing seats that really wrap around you. Getting in and out requires thought and strategy. I noticed this week that I do this little body twist thing and I think I've been twisting my knee.

SOoooo...no more doing the twist! :thumbsup2

I'll also bring Aleve as I've heard it works well. Regarding shoes, not sure yet, but will bring a couple of different supportive pairs.

i have acupuncture treatments for my knees(bad, bad, bad knees). works great! also, you might want to try tiger balm red(extra strength). it is warming and feels wonderful. just remember a little goes a long way!!:wave2:

I find that a scotch shot a day works great for pain.

:drinking1 more than one then it becomes a habit, can be hard to break.
