Nook Color

Does anyone have a Nook Color yet? I was just wondering if it was worth the extra money.

I just got mine last week. I got the original Nook in Jan, sold it to a friend and then bought myself the color Nook for Christmas. I love it! There is one thing that I didn't realize until I got it home though - it doesn't have 3G. That honestly isn't going to be a huge problem for me because I had terrible AT&T coverage at my house so my original Nook was connected to my home wireless just as the new one is. The only time it'll be a problem is when I travel. I'll just make sure to have a couple books downloaded before I go.

One feature I didn't realize I had was the ability for it to read children's stories. Not all of the stories have the capability but my girls have loved playing with that feature and I can see where I might use it when we're traveling. I don't read a lot of magazines but the full color is definitely useful for the kid's books.

I really like the touch screen. My phone is touch screen and I have a macbook with a touch pad. Out of habit I'd often find myself touching the screen on my original Nook when I wanted something. It wasn't a major issue but it was annoying when I'd catch myself doing it.

I'm an avid reader - every single day - and I'm a writer for a major publisher. It was worth it to me because reading and books are part of my daily life. The friend I sold my original one to is already talking about upgrading sometime next year. My mom has the original and she's perfectly happy with it and has no desire to upgrade to the color even after playing with mine. I think it just depends on how often you'll use it.

Thanks for the review KBazzel! I am giving mom one for Christmas so I played around with a few in store... which only made ME want one. She is going to allow me to download a couple things on hers and play with the items I would use it for before I would spend the money.

I saw the color one over the holidays and I think it's cool. It's almost like an Ipad without the apps. You can surf the net on it, play music on it, and add photos to it which I think is cool. I don't think you can add photos to the original one. I wouldn't mind having me one of those!

I ordered one of the original w/3g refurbished ones that were posted on the dis awhile back. I didn't even download one book before I knew that I hated it! I am used to a touchscreen phone, and and ipad. I returned the refurbed one to B&N and applied the credit toward the color nook that came out at the end of November.

Yes, it doesn't have 3g, but if I am going somewhere, I will know ahead of time and have plenty of material downloaded before I go.

I love it and it was totally worth the extra $$. I would have not used the orignianl enough to make it worth the $$ because I was just generally unhappy with the performance just upon start-up.

Go for the color!

I have the original nook & love it. I have no interest in the color, not once I found out it doesn't have e-ink, which is what sold me on the nook in the first place. The color looks cool, but all I'm doing is reading on my nook, and I read a lot. I don't need the touch screen, or magazines, or kids books (I wouldn't let my little ones TOUCH my nook, and even less likely if it cost me $100 more). I won't use it for internet, or anything but downloading and reading books.

That said, my friend loves loves loves her nook color. She had the 3g & traded it in for the color. She loves it & won't go back, but she uses it for internet, and kids books, magazines, etc. She has use for it & says yes, it's worth the money.

Like PP says, it depends on what you'll be doing. Do you have a store that sells them near you? Go play! I'm sure you'll be happy no matter what you decide. Nooks are wonderful!
