My DD 12 is an avid reader and looking at buying the Nook color. Is this a good choice? I can always count on my Dis friends to give me great feedback.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can't tell you anything about the Nook. I have the Kindle 2 and I love it. Everything about it.

I have an iPad as well. I love that too. Typing on it right now. But, I cannot read on it. Internet stuff, sure. But, I tried to read my Kindle app on it and it kills my eyes. I can't do the backlight.

I believe the Nook color is backlit. Ignore this if I am wrong, lol. But, something you might want to look into. Especially for a 12 year old. My 13 year old needs good light to read and prefers my Kindle as well.

Hope this helps a bit.:)

Consumer Reports recommends the Kindle over all other ereaders; I love my Kindle; I'm not a twelve year old.

You decide :)

I am an avid reader and have been looking at both the nook and nook color. I have to say, if it is for reading, go with either the black and white nook or the kindle 2. Both are e-ink readers, much easier on the eyes than the nook color, which is really just a backlit touch computer screen. The nook color is also much heavier and has very limited battery life. The e-ink readers have a battery life of weeks at a time. I have actually decided on the b&w nook over the kindle because of the ability to borrow e-books from the library.
The nook color is very sleek and stylish, but does not fit the purposes of a avid reader as well, IMHO....:goodvibes

I got the Nook Color for X-Mas and really like it. I picked it over the Kindle bc of the ability to borrow library books, which has been really great. I only occasionally buy a book from it and have been really loving borrowing option. I don't notice a problem with it bothering my eyes, and I have real serious issues with my eyes, dry eyes, and eye strain from computer work, also very sensitive to light, etc. but I haven't read it outside yet. I like to read in bed, I can read it with my husband sleeping next to me without a light on, etc. I also like that I can go on the web also while I'm lying in bed, check e-mails, do searches, etc. Love it!

I have the Kindle, and DD has the Nook Color. Of the 2 I prefer the Kindle. The Nook Color, to me, is a couple step down from an iPad. It has too many feature if you are just using it for an e-reader. For strickly e-reading, Kindle is the way to go.
