ok, so if you are in two contracts, say one at the Polynesian for 150 points and one at Baylake towers for 50 points. As I understand it to use all 200 points for a reservation at the poly, you actually have to make two reservations, one for each contract. My question is, does the fact that you’re an owner at The Poly allow you to book both reservations back to back? Or can you only book the one with Poly points at 11 months out and then at seven months out have to hope you can make a reservation that abuts the first one ?

You have to wait until 7 months to use non-home resort points. So yes, you would have to book one part at 11 months then the next at 7 months.

And if you think about it as a system, it makes absolute sense that points ALWAYS retain their home resort priority, and you can't use points not for that resort in home resort. Else people would buy 25 points at VGF, couple hundred at Saratoga, and flood VGF at 11 months. It throws off the balances of the system and the points sold.

I asked the same question as a newbie.

What you CAN do though, is use the power of banking and borrowing to accomplish much the same goal.

Let’s use your example of 150 Poly and 50 BLT:

2019 use all 150 poly points and borrow 50 from 2020 = 200 points. Bank 50 BLT

2020 use 50 banked BLT, current 50 and borrow 2021 points = 150 points. Bank 100 Poly points.

2021. Use banked 100 Poly points, current 100 and bank 50: 200 points.

2022 use banked 50 and current 150 at Poly, bank 50 BLT

2023 stay at BLT, bank Poly.

Repeat.

The other questions are if they are actually 2 separate contracts (i.e. 2 different Use Years) vs. 2 separate home resorts?

If 2 UY, then yes, each booking will be separate, unless you actually transfer points to the other UY (but transferred points will still retain same home resort and UY). If same UY, then at 7 months, all points are in one pool.

I like Ziravan's method - make the most out of banking/borrowing and get to make the most out of your home resort priority.

If they are two different member numbers, you won't be able to see both contracts at the same time on the website. So you can only use one or the other to book. If one is an add-on under the same master number, you'll be able to see both at the same time, but you'll only be able to use one or the other from seven to eleven months out.

As noted, it depends. If under one master they can be used as if one contract at or after 7 months out. You can bank/borrow but that leaves the points more restricted. If under separate master, which I suspect is not the case here, you have to book them separately but but might able to link reservations. Regardless, I'd suggest booking the appropriate nights at each home resort then trying to change the one you want at 7 months out.

It sounds like you are in the looking stage of DVC and deciding what to buy. What you are thinking would be correct if for example you bought contracts with different UY's although you could transfer points from one to the other to use together at 7 months. Others have covered the home priority and that you can only use Poly points at Poly and BLT points at BLT during the 11-7 month window.

If you purchase the same UY for both contracts then DVC almost always gets theme set up under the same membership - ie, you would log into your account and have 1 membership and both contracts would be under it. If you were to purchase those 2 contracts with the same UY then at the 7 month window you could use both contracts for a single resort booking. They would not have to be back to back individual reservations. You would see check boxes to choose which contract you wanted to use points from first and which one to use second to complete the booking.

Does anyone know:

1. If you have 2 different contracts, both with the same Use Year, but they are in different accounts, because the names on the ownership are slightly different, then, if you change the names so that they are both consistent, will Disney combine them into One account?

2. If you have two contracts that are titled the same, same Use Year, but Different Resorts, will Disney put them in the same account?

3. Once you have two different contracts in two different account numbers, does Disney EVER allow them to be combined into ONE account? All other requirements being met?

Thanks

I don't know about #1.

#2. Yes, definitely. There's always a chance that they wouldn't but I believe they really want to set it up that way and try to. We've bought additional resale - different resorts - and it's been added to existing membership. I had one resale that I only discovered we had closed when it showed up under my existing account.

#3. I think someone reported that being done for them but that was quite a few years ago. And someone else reported no luck in getting it changed. I think it's very rare now for Disney to not get it set up under an existing - I don't think I've seen anyone reporting it here for several years.

Only DVC can say for sure but I'll answer as I understand it.
  1. No, they will not combine them later. There may be a way but it'd require a new deed for both.
  2. Yes, as a rule but it's not guaranteed.
  3. My understanding is no. I'm only aware of one exception and it was one they should have done up front and it was fixed right away.

I read a post early in my research about combining contracts. Didn't pay attention at the time and now I can't find the post again.

The poster stated that securing the first night is the most difficult part of the 7 month booking. She had multiple small contracts that she used to book the first night of her vacation during the home resort priority period. Then on that booked day, modified the booking to add additional days using her SSR points. For example booking a single night on 8/1 at VGF with VGF points, then on 1/1 modify the booking to a whole week starting 8/1, paying for the difference with SSR points. This of course doesn't stop people with home resort priority to book days ahead, but beats out all the other people trying to switch at 7 months.

Has anyone done this or does anyone know if it works? Thanks!

No, not in my recent experience. If you book in the home resort priority period then the contract is locked to that reservation - ie it's grey'd out and you can't do anything with it. The night would have to be open and I believe would actually require you to just do a brand new reservation.

Thanks @KAT4DISNEY !

That must have been why the person was able to modify the booking.

I also wouldn't be surprised if there were less IT based restrictions in place - ie, a loophole in the booking process that allowed that to be done. That seems to have tightened up in the past few months.

You either bank and borrow and someone above mentioned. Good luck with your reservation
