wow....what a deal. Maybe I'm just not understanding this whole thing, but you're saying you made full vacation plans under the assumption (via your guide) that you'd be able to book the dining plan. So you really weren't out any money, but unable to utilize the dining plan. You still could have vacationed....just not able to take part in the dining plan, right ? So they gave you $1,000 ? My mouth is hanging open here because I never thought Disney/DVC would do anything like this ? I had a situation where my mil was placed on hospice in 2004 and given less than 6 months to live. This was during the month of April and within the 30 day mark to our HH trip (actually it was like 28 days prior). I begged MS to put my points back in my account and not in a holding account considering the emergency and they would not. They apologized profusely, but would not budge. Wish I would have encountered some of the generous people you dealt with bounceliketigger. I mean, not flaming here at all, I'm just REALLY suprised by this offer. It's like giving away $1,000 and I know how tight disney is with their money. In my humble opinion you got unusually lucky. Enjoy your trip :)

I am aghast! I can't believe they would not give you your points! That is just unbelievable. I'm sooo sorry for that experience & here I am excited about money.

You are precisely right about the situation I had though. And we quite thankful for our luck, particularly since that plan would have save us so much money that it was helping us to be able to bring my mom, who is disabled. I will say that we did not deal with MS though, once they told us about the April 1 date. We dealt only with our guide after that & he with his "team". He took care of the whole thing.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm happy for you, sad it wan't me, but I don't have that kind of luck!! Maybe $1,000 Disney dollars isn't the same value to them as us....like going to Canada or something...LOL
I met Mario on a Disney Cruise in Jan of '04 and a nice guy he is. Maybe it comes off his commission?
Have a great time!!

I'm quite sure that $1000 is but a speck to them, but it will make all the difference to us! Good Grief! I hope it doesn't come out of his pocket. I'm going to have to call him.

The OP got bad info and booked a trip based on that info. Sounds like they were justified in getting the $1000.

Does the dining plan save that much?

I should talk to my guide as often as possible and make him say something misleading, such as DVC is building a resort in Hawaii and buy some points and then call him/his manager day and night for about 2 months. Maybe they will give me a hundred points. I am just kidding.

Enjoy...

I don't know that I'd go that far, but it sure is nice to know someone out there understands! Maybe it's a NJ thing.
It's New Yawk too!! LOL

I'm sorry, but I just don't get this. They give the OP $1000 to compensate them for not being able to BUY a dining plan?????? I would understand concern if this was something you got for free, but this is just being able to BUY something. Me thinks there is something else to the story. Even in the name of customer service, this is way beyond anything reasonable that one might do especially when this isn't related to the purchase itself or any kind of legal representation. Less compensation has been given in very serious circumstances, and this compensation is CASH (Disney Dollars can be converted into good hard American cash). Just has me perplexed.

Just my 2 cents. No offense to the OP and this is not personal, just my opinion on the situation.

I think they opened a can of worms, that they will regret. Where will it end?

Of course and I have said this many times. They might not regret doing this, but they might regret it made the forums here. ;)

No flames here, I'm just curious, how much would you have paid for the Dinning plan? Perhaps this is nothing more than a free dinning plan.

Well if Disney is giving away free dining plans to everyone they have given wrong information to, sign me for mine. :thumbsup2

I have to agree with you 100% Doc. It's one thing to get the dining plan and save all this money, but if that plan was not available at all to you, you are saying you would dine the same way without it? It seems most people would not dine like that. With DVC, you have a full kitchen in a 1 bedroom or better and you may normally utilize it on some of your vacation. You might also skip an expensive dinner some nights for a more casual meal that may cost half of this and if you do dine like that, then you already are used to paying the price. I see it as you getting something for nothing. Like Doctor P said, this is esentially getting $1000 cash to spend anyway you want, Not just dining. I feel you were not cheated out of this, because it was not available. It is in all the member updates and here on this site to when this plan goes into effect. It was a mistake and you stated $650 wasn't good enough. You held out for more. It also may cause problems for Mario, but I'm sure he will not tell you if it did. If my mistake cost my company $1000, it would come out of my pocket. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out of his.

Yeah... Kudos to the OP for getting satisfaction, but I might have kept it to myself.... I'm not sure you did your guide any favors by posting this here!

I personally don't think that the $1000 was something DVC should have done, however, I do understand the difficulties of trying to replan a trip. I am glad that they made some type of compensation and I think some folks are overlooking the point that this wasn't just for 1 or 2 people, it was for 8. And there can be quite a few problems with trying to shuffle around work schedules if you have already asked for time off, and if you booked plane tickets, etc...

Now, in my opinion, I think a better solution would have been for them to offer the DDE card as that would have provided some significant discounts on the food (and might not contribute to as much weight gain that typically results from the DP).

Again... jmo.... but I think $1000 was a bit over the top. But enjoy, and have a great trip! And if you haven't gotten your ADR's set, you better get busy!

Ignore the petty jealousy. Your guide made an important promise upon which he could not deliver but still found a way to make it right in the end. (You'd think your fellow members would be proud of their ownership in such an upstanding company instead of worrying about the $0.0001 that might come out of their dues.)

Considering that there have been over 1000 viewings of this post in 2 days, I wonder if DVC is going to regret setting such an expensive precedent for rectifying mistakes made by their guides. Although the gesture has smoothed things over with one member, they may have many members, who expect similar compensation for mistakes, very upset if they are not met with the same offering. It seems like it could be a slippery slope.

Mario is a guide not MS. He made this promise in conjunction with a sale. My guess is that the $1000 came from his commission. Disney probably made him cover this to save his job. If he gives out false information during a sale again (even accidentally) he'll probably be gone.

Way to go...somethin for nothin...the way this country seems to be going.

Oh, I forgot your extreme hardships ie: planning a trip and going to WDW without the dining plan!

:confused3

I think $1000 is a bit extreme and will go a long way towards essentially letting you eat for free. Why wasn't $650 satisfactory in your opinion? It would have probably made up the gap in getting the plan and eating without it. I am glad for you, but wonder at what cost this comes to your guide.

There is a lot of jealousy going on here. Who cares if they offered her the money, really. This is nothing more than a goodwill gesture from Disney and that's pretty outstanding for a company to do these days. The guide will not loose money out of his own pocket and plus he was the one who said $650.00 wasn't good enough so why would you blame the OP for getting more. Once again 1K will not force Disney into any financial situation nor will it keep them from improving the experience at the parks.

I am not jealous. I feel that something was given that should not have been and if it is paid for my from dues, then that is wrong. I and no other member should have to give more to our dues to pay for another member. People always get upset at extra calls to ms, well this is alot more expensive than these calls are.

If you want the $1000 taken out of your dues, then call and offer it to ms. I don't want any part of it taken from me. Those should never had been offered, mistake or not. the op is getting something for nothing. There was no dining plan at that time and it was a mistake, but if you were to go on this vacation, you would have to pay for whatever dining you want out of your pocket anyway. If you are a member, then you should get your DVC mailings, use of the member web site and information here to know what perks are available and which are not. Once ms told you that this option was not available, then you could have easily looked it up to verify the information to find out it was not an option. It sounds like you were hoping to get something for this, when you really should not get anything. I would not expect this if it happened to me. Sure, I would be upset if it happened to me, but you make other plans. Things happen and you adapt to these changes, not expect to get things handed to you that you did not earn .
