None of my friends get it, but I know you will

I have to tell someone, but my friends and family don't get it.

I just had Cataract surgery on my right eye. I am having my left eye done Oct 3rd. We go to Disney Oct 15th. I have worn glasses for over 30 years. For many years I have been virtually blind - the best I could get with corrective lenses was 20/50 or so. Disney has always been annoying since my glasses tend to fall off due to the shape of my head. I would either remove my glasses prior to riding most rides and put them in a bag (which always stressed me getting on Mine Train or something like that and fumbling to get my glasses into my bag and my bag into the pocket), or I would wear contacts, but those gave me headaches after a few hours. Even then - with contacts or glasses, I still could not see very well. 3D (like TSMM or FOP) was always problematic.

It's a different world after cataract surgery. I am not 20/20 yet (about 20/30), but the doctor thinks it'll improve more. Colors are MUCH MORE VIBRANT than they were before (which makes sense). The world looks brighter. And all I can think about is that Disney is going to be like a brand new place to me. I am so excited about visiting with my new vision and not having to constantly take off and put on glasses, or deal with the headaches of contacts, and even then seeing things clearer and better and more colorful.

Is that weird? The thing I am most looking forward to after my surgery is seeing Disney for what feels like the first time in forever.:Pinkbounc:dancer::jumping3:

Yay! I know my parents were both thrilled when they had their cataracts fixed. If you do end up with glasses again for whatever reason, look for soft silicone ear hooks on Amazon. I have them for Disney, but my kids use them daily so that they can run and play without worrying about their glasses falling off.

I totally get it! Congratulations and have a wonderful trip! I finally caved and got contact lenses, I didn't realize what I was missing!

I fully understand how you feel having had cataract surgery myself.

DH still kids me about seeing a teal blue sky with my undone eye after the first surgery. I kept closing/opening because there was such a difference between eyes--one sky blue, the other greenish-blue. Had no idea until then how bad my color perception had become.

You'll find "Disney vision" amazing, I'm sure.

Been there. What's really nice is being able to see without glasses when you get on a ride. Not even the ride experience as much as ease of entry. (If you had to take your glasses off while waiting in line so you could put them away, you know what I mean.)

It will be incredible! I hope you get to 20-20!

What a pain to have to change glasses. I have four pair I change out which is ridiculous. I typically wear transitions at the parks but still can't read a menu or receipt. As I pay the receipt, I have to ask my DH, son or DIL to figure the tip as I can't read the tiny writing LOL!

I had one cataract removed but then had retinal detachment and almost lost my eye. Thanks to two great surgeons, they saved my eye. I have terrible vision in the other, but risk retinal detachment if I have the cataract removed so...I deal with four sets of glasses.

I am "between eyes" right now, and I am constantly closing my good eye to see "bad" and closing my bad eye to see "good". But it's driving me CRAZY on my eye that has not been done yet. I keep feeling like I need to rub it. The good news is that it will be done in under a week.

I still must wear glasses unlike most who don't need them after their lens implants do the needed vision correction.

Lucky me, having a ton of astigmatism.

Still, I can see pretty well at a distance without glasses, well enough to watch tv which is amazing as nearsighted as I was prior to the surgeries.

Pretty astonishing what cataract surgery can do these days.

How wonderful that you have WDW visit to look forward to! Be sure to look UP - at the windows on Main Street and in DHS, at the buildings at AK. They are really special.
