Non-typical Florida-resident discount question (no I'm not trying to cheat the system)

We will be traveling to Disney in September, and have our room booked at AKL using the current 30% off offer. We do not live in Florida.

A legit Florida-resident relative will be meeting us there, but she will be staying off-site with a friend to keep her costs down. I'd like to surprise her by booking/paying for her a room at Wilderness Lodge. When I search for our dates with the current "anybody" 30% off code, there are no rooms available at the WL. However, when I search for rooms using the Florida resident filter, there *are* discounted rooms available.

Here is my question: provided that she is linked in my Friends & Family group, can I book (and pay for) a WL room using the Florida-resident discount as long as the person who will be staying in the room can show proof of Florida residency at check-in? I know I could just have her book the room herself and I could just pay her back but I'd like to surprise her at the last minute by having everything taken care of ahead of time.

Thank you in advance!

I can’t help with your question about whether you can do this, but be aware that if you add her to the room it will show up in her MDE so it won’t be a surprise

The person that BOOKS the room MUST be a FL resident, otherwise you will pay full price. Just being a resident in the group doesn't count.

UUUGGHHH didn't think of this!!

Welp, that settles it, lol. Thanks for the info.

Can you pay for rooms with a Disney gift card? I guess I can figure up the total cost, buy a gift card in that amount, and present it to her with a card saying "now go book a room at WL" lol.

Not as fun, but at least she'd have a room at her favorite hotel.

Yes but you’re traveling during hurricane season. So realize if anything happens and she doesn’t end up using the room the money will be refunded to the Disney gift card and not in cash.

Also know room availability changes in a second, so what’s available now and has been available for the last 2 weeks could disappear 10 mins from now.

And before buying a DGC for her if you go that route make sure her other room is still refundable…
