NON SWGE Crowds?

I am very interested in knowing what the NON SWGE Disney crowd is like these first few weeks of opening. We’re going with a large family group in July and only about a third of us have any interest in SWGE, whatsoever. Because of that, I’d love to know what the impact is, crowd-wise on the rest of Disneyland and California Adventure.

(I’m not sure if this belongs in another thread. I looked around and didn’t immediate see anything that it would fit into easily, but Mods, please move if necessary.)

I'm in the same boat. We leave tomorrow and won't be having anything to do with Galaxy's Edge. I'm going to watch the wait times in the app closely today. I'm honestly scared since this is our very first trip. But so far so good. The park has been open 8 minutes and most things are showing a 5 or 10 min. wait. lol

I’m nervous because there are some in our group who have never been there before specifically because their impression of Disney, in general, is that it’s too crazy and crowded to be enjoyable. I talked them into giving it a try on this family trip before I had any idea SWGE was going to be opening this summer (we started planning this trip well over a year ago!), they agreed, we all bought tkts, and THEN we found out about SWGE. So. I’m nervous it’s going to totally ruin their impression forever!

I'm also watching this with interest; my daughter's too little to be into Star Wars, but she is a big princesses/Clubhouse friends/Pixar fan. We'll be there for two days in just over a week, and we're...a little trepidatious about the crowds!

I don't think you can compare June to July. June will bring those who have reservations. I suspect the flood of people will come once reservations are over.

I agree with the pp that the reservation system changes things. Plus, I expect today that the non-SWGE crowds are not a good representation of what will be seen even in the next week or so. Many people probably avoided today just to avoid what could have been a crazy SWGE start. Also, many non-SWGE reservation holders were there to get merchandise and are standing in those lines.

I dunno. We decided last minute to go in July- 4th if July week to be exact. I thought for sure I would struggle to find a room, let alone one for a decent price. I had no trouble finding a room right across the street for $100 a night. Then I thought for sure I wouldn’t be able to get dinning. I got every reservation I wanted including WOC dessert party, fantasmic dinner, lamplight.. and there is still a ton of availability. Having gone during Christmas break this is not how it was 30 days out when capacity crowds were expected. I just really wonder if all the crazy hype and the spring ticket deal and the reservation period and the blocked out passes are going to keep the capacity crowds away. I do except it to be very busy and for galaxeys edge to be very busy but I just dunno! Even on the dis July thread there is only a handful of people going.

Its too early to tell. We need to see what the park is like after they have released the first couple of reservation groups back into the rest of DL. Also everything will look a lot different after June 23rd. A true determination cant be made until then as a lot of people without SGE reservations may be avoiding the parks until then.

I think it's gonna be hellacious once the ressie period is over. The AP blockouts will help, but some people are still gonna take the chance on bearable crowds (or they don't care).

Will be watching crowds, too. Looks like I'm headed to So Cal in Aug/Sep and thinking of a 1-day/1-park ticket just to take a gander.

Not gonna bother if the crowds are still ramped up by then.

Oh, I fully expect things to change once the reservation period ends. Still, I do think there will be observable trends over the next several weeks between now and then, and I’m curious as to how that plays out.

This morning was kind of an anomaly with so many people in the merchandise line first. The rest of the park is starting to fill up now, and I assume DCA will grow as the day goes on. I think the next week will be a good indicator for the reservation period trends, but once the reservation period ends all bets are off! And then we will have to await the opening of RotR to further see the impact of SWGE.

I think the crowds to some degree will be self regulating (at least until reservations end) If the word on the street is that it isn't too crowded you'll get more non GE people coming in but if it is crazy then people will stay away. Just because it is more of a locals park that World. So it will be very busy since it is summer time but not like insane.

We were supposed to be there on our annual girls' trip this weekend - had the hotel booked and everything, but we both have epic family vacations happening this summer so we decided to do the girls' trip on the cheap. Now I'm really wishing we'd kept the reservation and gone!

^^^

People are staying away because “it’s going to be so crazy.” So if it’s NOT crazy, more will come expecting low crowds. Then it will be crazy. Then people will hear that it’s crazy and stay away again.

I’ve never seen the DCA Starbucks empty. I’m shook.

Main Street at 11:30am, Fiddler & co at 11:45. So empty.

Eta: I don’t know why my pictures are sideways; they’re right when I preview, sorry!
