Do you need to be in room in order to pick up your ECV? Planning on getting to the resort around noon. Room might not be available. Will they meet you somewhere else like hotel lobby. Will not have a cell phone so how will they be able to contact us when they get to the resort.

I don't think they are allowed to deliver to your room.

When we rented from Walker they met us outside the lobby doors under the driveway overhang (we were at WL).

We had a pre-arranged meeting time. For us, though, having a cell phone was important because getting to WL from MCO took longer than expecte d-- I was able to call from the ME bus, let them know where we were, and arrange a slightly later drop off time. The drop-off person was then able to call me to confirm when he would be arriving.

I suggest asking your questions to the company you plan to rent from.

We now use Buena Vista, who is a preferred vendor, so they are able to leave the ECV with bell services, who we then pick it up from. The reverse at the end of the trip. We much prefer this and have found it to be very helpful and much less stressful -- no needing to schedule our day around prearranged drop off/pick up times nor stress about being late for a scheduled time, or havign a time that is possibly not the most convenient for our plans.

1) When the vendor arrives at the resort, you will be called.
2) You MUST receive the ECV yourself.
. . . it cannot be left for you at the resort or through the Concierge or Bell Services
. . . it cannot be delivered to your room without you present to sign for it
. . . the exchange/handoff is typically done in the lobby
3) Being able to just drop-off the ECV for you is one benefit of the vendor paying WDW for the "preferred" status

I'll tell you my experience with Walker 3 weeks ago. In theory, they were scheduled to drop off between 7 and 8. They said that they would call about 10 minutes beforehand, so I could be anywhere within 10 minutes of the lobby. Reality-got a call on my cell phone just before we checked in, and he said to call when we checked in. I called when we checked in, went and sat on the bench by the valet stand, and 2 minutes later, here came my ECV. Very easy!

There is no "preferred" designation. Companies that pay a fee to use Bell Services to exchange rental equipment are - and have been for a while - designated as Featured.

You know, it just occurred to me that when I picked it up, I did't have to sign for it or even show ID. I'd told them on the phone that I'd be sitting on the bench by the valet stand and a few minutes later they gave the ECV to a lady sitting on said bench. I guess I just had an honest looking face!

Get a cell phone like trac phone. For very little money you can be protected. It's just better with traveling to have a cell phone. You could probably do this for less than $50 with a month of service. On sale, you can get a phone for $5. Usually, this comes with 10 minutes of service included. You could even by multiple cheap phones and just have one handy in case you run out of minutes. Of course, your phone number would be different on each phone.

For example, you could have a scooter problem once you start using one in the park. Yes, a Disney cast member would probably help you get connected to your vendor, but who knows how easy this will be.

I feel safer with a cell phone, too.
