non-pesticide ant control

Does anyone have any good sugestions for ant control that doesn't involve pesticides?

If they are carpenter ants, I would recommend getting rid of them with pesticides as they will damage your house.

I used to make a paste from boric acid and water and put it around the cracks or openings where the ants are coming in. It worked really well.

There is also a mint spray available in stores. I used it years ago when my kids were still at the crawling stage and it worked pretty well.

We have red ants here and they bite!

We have pest control spray an organic spray. Sometimes they still come into the house. As I have small children and a dog, I don't want to use pesticides inside, so I use window cleaner with ammonia. It kills them and then I spray liberally around the outside area. Then I call the pest control company.

Down here you need to have pest control for termites and red ants! I wish I could find something for mosquitoes!

This can be harmful to pets, so be careful where you put it. Make sure it's in places that pets cannot get at.

I read something about cinnamon too.

Chili powder sprinkled along the areas they are coming in helps a lot. It stains though so be aware of that.

Get a double boiler, put chocolate in the top and melt it. Put said ants into the "hot" chocolate. They will die instantly, and, once chilled, you have a protein-filled snack.

Actually I've heard the mint & chili powder works really well. I though I read where you can make a spray for the outside of your house out of one of those. Probably give it a google and see what comes up.
