Non-Park Activities Using Disney Transportation?

I am attending a conference at the Disney Hilton (Downtown Disney) next week and a friend of mine is coming along (with her son) to watch my daughter while I'm at the conference. We are going to Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios before the conference starts and I'm looking for non-park activities for them to do while I'm at the conference on Wednesday. I don't want to pay for admission to the parks, but I'd be willing to spend a bit for something they could do locally (that doesn't involve renting a car)...even some resort activities that don't require you to be a registered guest. Any ideas?

They can also catch a boat from DTD over to The Port Orlean resorts and have a look around.
Port Orleans Riverside has a fantastic Food Court.
The POR has a beautiful grounds to walk around.
If they decide to take the boat POR is the second stop and POFQ is the 1st stop on the boat.

They can also take a bus from DTD to Animal Kingdom lodge and tour the grounds, see animals, eat at a TS like BOMA or there is a Food Court there also called MARA. Then take the bus back to DTD when they are done.

Going to the epcot area resorts is fun. We saw Lilo and stitch at bc once. Boardwalk area is nice. There is a lot to see at dd if they like to play around in shops.

Also, adding days onto a 3 day pass is not too pricey. It's the first two days that cost so much.

Fort Wilderness is a nice place to explore. You can sit on the beach and watch the boats go by. Or rent a boat for a ride around the lake. They have a nice playground and great restaurant as well. Parking is free and easy. If you get bored you can take the boat to Wilderness Lodge or the Magic Kingdom and back.

Not sure if you realize this but with Undercover Tourist the difference between a 3 day ticket and a 6 day park ticket is only $3. If your already paying for 3 days adding another day or 2 is neglible in cost and a lot of fun!

go over to the community hall at SSR - they can paint, play games - of course they might require you to be staying on property. but don't remember them asking for ID (key)

also if you kids are into it - the arcade at PO, Pop, and CR are pretty good.

Disney quest at DD is also a good choice (expensive)

We've spent hours at AKL watching the animals. WL is also great, the resorts have printed lists of Hidden Mickey hints that you can search for. The boardwalk is a nice place to spen an afternoon. You can also ride the monorail which gives you a free peek into EPCOT. You can also take a boat from MK to the Poly and just stroll the grounds there. We actually did a Disney vacation when the rates were very low in Jan and didn't do the parks at all. We just did the stuff I named and had a very enjoyable trip.
