Non-owners making reservations at AKV?

Does anyone know when the reservations will open up for nonowners at AKV? Also, do you think that a nonowner could get a reservation for a few days between Christmas and New Years? (Don't laugh too hard, I am sensitive. )

I am not sure on the date you can book but I would say the chances for Christmas/New Years are going to be pretty slim. I know I am personally going to be rebooking my fall reservations from OKW to AKV if possible and I bet many AKV owners may be considering doing the same. Then you will also have the general DVC membership to vie with who may decide to try and book that time frame. That said, it cannot hurt to try! I would definitely have a backup reservation in place now though in case you will not be able to get AKV.

Non-owners can start booking AKV on June 6th. No idea about availability for Christmas week. Good luck!

June 6th for non-owners.

As for the week between Xmas and New Years....I'd say chances are slim.

The owners are going to get first crack at that week....and it's going to be a VERY popular time, it looks like. There may be some availability left over after owners are done. Keep an eye out on these boards...if you see owners saying there's nothing left, prior to June 6th...you'll have your answer. If not, get up bright and early on June 6th and prepare to use your dialing finger at 9 AM sharp.

Well guys, that is what I thought. Just wanted to get a confirmation. I have a reservation at SSR right now for those days and wanted to move it to another resort, possibly AKV, at the seven month window. Thanks for the encouragement and the date of booking.

every year someone says how popular this week is and there won't be any DVC villa - well guess what.

that week is not that popular with DVC members - because it is so darn crowded.

now if you want to go with 125,000 others to the MK - then hey it is great for you.

but I like to move against the crowd - being forced to move with the crowd is not my idea of fun.

now one day I might just go during that time to see what the fuss is about it. but to do it regularly - no way. I like Sept....not to mention early Dec.

this year it might be iffy because there will be only the rooms in the Lodge and not all of them - but next year with the Villa opening - I think you will be able to get it easily.

I think your LAST paragraph sums up the situation. Yes, it's not generally sold out for the DVC resorts that week, BUT you have VERY VERY few places to stay at AKV that week so it won't take much to sell it out.

You'll actually have to wait until the 7 month window hits to book (around mid to late July...July 21st?? maybe). Again, chances are going to be slim until more rooms come into inventory because owners are going to get first dibs on the preferred times (MLK weekend is one of those, I think).

Wouldn't it actually be late June? I knew about the 7 month window. Yeah we are arriving the Wed. after MLK weekend. I am hoping some people will be gone by then. Fingers crossed.

Keep the reservation and wait list as a single choice any resort you're prefer. My response for AKV was taking into account that there will be few units this year. Once the resort is open and completed and there is no pent up demand, that time may be easier. 2009 Xmas also may be easier as there will likely be declared but unsold inventory creating a small cushion for non members temporarily.
