Non-members blatantly using facilities

I second that agreement. We pay far too much, and more importantly, care too much. These are our resorts and our amenities. As has been said, especially since this guy was telling guests that this is what he is doing.

I am glad I am not the only one who realized this last week. It happened at BCV also and I did escalate and no one seems to care. Not saying that I will abuse it like everyone else but I tell you I AM NOW GOING TO GET MY MONEY'S WORTH SINCE EVERYONE ELSE IS FREELOADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While it would be a somewhat small risk that WDW would be alienating a customer by enforcing the rules, this type isn't their best customer. Anyone who would do that would be scamming left and right. Also by not enforcing rules, they run the risk of more abuse and less incintive for future customers to pay the high rates of those resorts if they can use the facilities anyway.

One of the problems with Disney's no backbone approach to this and similar issues is the "give an inch, take a mile" issue. If you don't take any type of stand, you get more and more people taking larger chances in more areas.

Exactly.

I really do not get upset with the people who do this, even though it is certainly nothing I would ever even fathom. I have the right to pool hop and never use it.

But I have about had it with Disney. I am really ready to go to the front desk and say my vacation is being diminished by the over crowding of faclities by unpaying guests, that unless you wish to deal with them, I would like compensation.

As to will Disney look the other way, it depends on if children are involved. A family pool hopping is less likely to be confronted than a group of adults, or young teens etc.

Not to mention run the risk of being assaulted.....in today's world, I would not want to confront anyone.:sad2:

Hope... my friend... today's world is no different or worse than a thousand or three thousand years ago. Standing up to someone sneeking into a movie or someone robbing a bank... It is just human nature to avoid or confront wrong-doers. Some have the galantry to do it and some have too much to loose to risk it. It is all arbitrary, but in the end it has nothing to do with today's world. I understand your reluctance to confront... I too am reluctant.

I think if enough of us band together and get in front of Disney they would consider bucling down a bit. I would rather more restrictions knowing the enormous money I paid is not paying for others enjoyment.

I will tell you I am not one to let something like this go. I hate and dispise people taking advantage especially if it has to do with my money!

If some freeloading SO$ told me this I'd ask him how he can admit being a thief to a total stranger. Then tell him to watch me as I go report his sorry excuse for a human being to the management. Maybe he'd try to stop me. Sounds like fun.

One of my staff at work made the mistake of bragging to me how he buys children tickets at the movies for him and his wife because the ticket taker never checks. I then told him he was a thief. The interesting thing about this guy was that he spent all of he break time and quite a bit of his non break time reading the Bible.

And every time Disney confronts a hopper they run the risk of permanently alienating a customer.

And when Disney refuses to do anything about it they run the risk of alienating an even bigger customer, a DVC member.

These people are costing us money by using the towels (they have to be washed and replaced with wear and tear). Maybe they're even taking the towels with them   :scared1::lmao:

I have to say, I would have said something, strictly on principle. That person, who is probably the same guy who plops down in the middle of the row at Fantasmic and refuses to move down to the end no matter how many people have to crawl over him or how many times the CM announces to go all the way down, is not only teaching his children the wrong thing, he is teaching my child the wrong thing. I would consider it my responsibility to my child to speak up. The only way to change injustice is to address it. And if I didn't address it, I taught her that type of behavior WORKS. Regardless of how Disney handled it, at least I would know I did the right thing.

People like this just frustrate me! Sadly, there are types like this all over the United States. It boils down to a lack of respect for others!

I would have notified a CM about this person. Disney pools are crowded enough with just the resort guests. If Disney did expect just about anyone off the street to use the pools, they wouldn't have signs posted at the pools that the pools are for the exclusive use of the guests at that resort. Disney needs to follow through on their rules and too bad about the "Disney Magic".

What is wrong with our society that people like this even exist? :sad2:

Agree.

I would have called a CM.

Well the last time I confronted someone for cutting me off on the road, they pointed a pistol at me! Sooooo.......from then on I just let it go!

People have been asked to leave the Boardwalk pool if they could not show a valid resort ID. But I don't think they check on a regular basis unless someone complains and the pool/chairs are busy.

Personally, I probably would not say anything to the lifeguards or resort management unless the crashers or their kids were "behaving badly" or taking up chairs when others were obviously looking for one.

Once I called security on loud and noisy (probably drunk) adults in the hot tub and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was after 10 pm. They were promptly dealt with, LOL. Suspect I was not the only one who called to complain about them.

HEY!! Now I know who turned me in!! LOL!! ;)

We returned from BWV this past week and we never did make it out to the pool since we had heavy rains all afternoon each day there. But on previous trips, I have seen a CM roaming around asking guests to show their room keys. If they did not have it (who would leave their room without a key?) they were asked to go get it and show him in order to remain at the pool.

Perhaps they need to get back to this policy again..

I would go and mention it to the front desk or call about it as I too would be worried about confrontation. I've seen some nasty confrontations at WDW in the sweltering heat of the summer from people clearly breaking the rules.

As Jim, mentioned (great response) we all pay too much as DVC members to have people abusing 'our' stuff. The towels need to be cleaned, more staff, etc. The worst of it would be if I as a paying guest couldn't get into BWV because of idiots like this.

I am extremely moral and highly ethical, as is my family, but not everyone is, and it's about time Disney starts to realize this! They need to ask for ID at all times, period and then they need to properly turn away those idiots who are trying to sneak in. I can understand a family staying at another WDW resort who thinks it's ok to pool hop, but this bozo isn't even a paying guest, so he's gotta go!

Tiger :(

EXACTLY!
As long as Disney never takes the time and effort to CONSISTANTLY apply the rules & policies, there will always be abusers of the weakness in the system!

Imagine, if Disney always enforced it's rules then people would begin to understand that they can't get away with things and would have less desire to even try.

But, alas, this is not a perfect world.
:headache:

We just got back from Vero - and I always assumed that the whole key-card gate thing (w/CM stationed) would keep out crashers. Evidently not.

For those of you who have been to Vero - you know that the tables under the gazebo by the pool are coveted spots. There was a huge extended family camped out with all their stuff taking up two of the four tables. I was sitting at an empty table eating my lunch and reading my book when I overheard the following conversation:

Woman: I told everyone that they needed to bring a change of clothes with them because we won't go back to the condo before dinner.

This was followed by the family complaining and etc.

Then the woman said "A few of us can go in the showers and change. we don't want to all go in because that will look suspicious."

At this point I looked up at them with a  look and they very rapidly gathered up their stuff and left the gazebo. (Okay - I'll admit - I flashed them my well-honed teacher I-see-what-you're-doing-and-it's-not-okay look :teacher:) . If they had stayed and kept hogging the tables, I would have reported them.

What's amazing to me is that these parents are actively teaching their children to break rules and sneak into places. I mean, I've got kids almost 10 and 12 - old enough for me to realize that the potential for them to get into trouble is not too far on the horizon. I would never encourage them to disobey rules and limits and learn how to sneak in places without proper ID. That is a very dangerous attitude to model for your children. What are people thinking?

The problem with pool hopping is that the folks in OP's story are exactly right--Disney doesn't want to do anything about it. At least not with any consistency.

I don't think these people would qualify as pool hoppers. They weren't staying on property. They were using it as the neighborhood pool. Pool hopping is one thing, but just going when you aren't a paying guest, that's totally different. The nerve of some people. Unbelievable.

I think the pools look great at WDW, but they are gross. They need to crack down on toddlers peeing in the pool and require swim diapers for kids under 5. Now that's the real problem I have with the pools. We didn't even go to the pool this last trip, because the pool was full of toddlers without diapers, so you know it's also full of pee. YUCK! :scared1: I know that's off topic, but had to say it somewhere.

Just an fyi...

I did observe someone checking the quality of water in the pools and hot tubs every two hours at BCV so it made me feel pretty comfortable that they are clean.

One could list MANY reasons to say this is not OK (costs, rule following, example to others, etc) but ultimately people who would crash are not desirable people to be around or have as fellow members.
