If you have a timeshare other than DVC and had to rent it out, where were you able to find a renter? Have posted on craigslist but haven't had luck so far. thank you,

Timeshare users group and redweeks have generally been where I've used. if you use craigslist, it gets a little tricky where to put it. Usually the area of the condo ends up being best if it's a well known area.

Dean, can you recommend a particular group? I know there are many out there. thank you.
Redweeks my first option. Timeshares Users Group (TUG) at tug2.net . Depending on the timeshare company, there are often specific locations as well.

Redweek or TUG....both are reputable and get a lot of traffic. Ads are easy and inexpensive to list too. Good luck with your rental!

Thank you all, we also have Marriott so will try those.
If what you're wanting to rent is a Marriott, TUG & redweeks are good options. Sometimes Marriott will also rent them back for areas where they are doing promotions so you might check with them on your week and resort.

We posted to red weeks.com and found a renter. He is going through Ken Carter of Timesharevavationsonly.com. Does this seem ok?

It's not that uncommon that brokers will act as a go between or even agree to rent your timeshare and then rent it to someone else for a profit. However, there are some things to be wary about. First, if there's an escrow involved, make sure you're not paying part of the cost unexpectedly and make sure it's not all paid after the fact. Sometimes escrow situations give far too much power to the renter over the owner. Also make sure you're happy with the terms. Mine are 1/4 up front and the remainder at 120 days out all non refundable.

Personally, I don't like a third party involved...gets too cumbersome with a go-between and the owner sometimes ends up paying some portion of the broker's fee. I would do it myself if I were you. This way, you maintain full transactional control and get the full price of YOUR week. Just my opinion, but it is very easy to do yourself. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

In this situation, the renter pays the broker $400. We make the reservation in our name for the date he wants, he has 5 days to pay us, then we change name on reservation to renter's name. The only issue is the 5 days to pay - if you want to rent from us, wouldn't you just pay it right away?

I've rented out my timeshares very successfully through EBay. But there were a lot of bargain hunters who wanted the room cheap. You have to weed through the cheapskates.
